Motive

The sinking of MV Toboshi, also known as the Toboshi massacre,[note 1] occurred on 20 September 1949 when the Creeperian submarine BIC DA 36 struck the Ajaki cargo ship MV Toboshi with a torpedo. Toboshi was carrying over 10,000 Creeperian refugees, most of whom were ex-combatants of the National Council for Peace and Order and civilians from the city of Adolfosburg, when it was struck by the torpedo.

The sinking killed all but eighteen of those onboard; nearby naval vessels of the Catholic Imperial Restoration Council did not assist the survivors and even fired upon some survivors, killing many in the process, but only rescued sixteen random individuals to represent the sixteen years of civil war the country endured. All eighteen survivors were later interviewed of the events which occurred during the sinking and subsequently executed by the Imperial Council for treason. Among those killed included Miguelist Emperor Marcos I, who was attempting to flee the country for safety in Ajakanistan.

Many historians outside of Creeperopolis consider the sinking of the ship to constitute a war crime, and some have considered the incident to also be a massacre. Meanwhile, in Creeperopolis, the sinking has been praised by the government as a "heroic achievement against Miguelism", and the crew of the submarine were all awarded the grand cross grade of the Imperial Order of Romerism by Emperor Romero II.
