Mapastepec (Creeperian script: Մապաստեպեծ; Xichútepan for Hill of the Raccoon) is a town along the Zapatista River. It was the site of the Battle of the Zapatista River during the Creeperian Civil War in 1949. It was also the site one of the largest massacres during the Mara War, the Mapastepec Massacre, on 2–3 July 1998. The massacre killed 8,184 people and 195 more were abducted, 97 percent of the total population.
