The CODECO military intervention in Sequoyah, also called the COMISEQ military intervention in Sequoyah, alternatively referred to as the CODECO military invasion of Sequoyah or the COMISEQ military invasion of Sequoyah, is an ongoing military peacekeeping intervention organized by and lead by the Cooperation and Development Coalition. CODECO established the Cooperation and Development Coalition Mission in Sequoyah (COMISEQ) to serve as the peacekeeping force of the intervention.

The intervention is labeled as a peacekeeping mission lead by CODECO as a part of the Sequoyan Civil War, while Sequoyan and other foreign sources have labeled the intervention force as an invasion.[lower-alpha 1] The following nations (in alphabetical order) have committed military personnel to the intervention: Creeperopolis, El Salvador, and Salisford; the following nations (in alphabetical order) have contributed financially to the intervention: Creeperopolis, El Salvador, Salisford, and the State of the Church. The intervention force declared the establishment of the Reorganized Constitutional Government of the Republic of Sequoyah (RCGRS) with former Sequoyan soldier Captain Atohi Dustu as its Provisional President.

The Terraconserva Council of Nations did not authorize the intervention and convened on the first day of the beginning of the intervention to pass TCN Resolution 033, establishing a no-fly zone over Sequoyah for foreign aircraft. COMISEQ and the Big Three of the TCN are currently negotiating making an exception for COMISEQ forces in regard to the no-fly zone, but the Creeperian Air Force carried out missions against the Sequoyan Army prior to the resolution coming into effect.

The COMISEQ intervention is the first time since the Battles of the Glaceis Ocean in March 2020 where a coalition of nations use military force against a foreign nation and at least one TCN Resolution was passed in regard to a military invasion or intervention.

Prelude

On 22 November 2020, Admiral Diwali Wesa, the interim president of Sequoyah, issued Executive Order 10455 that declared the Cheasequah Front, a group that allegedly interfered in the 2020 Sequoyan presidential election, a terrorist organization, effectively outlawing the group.[1][2][3] The order authorized the Sequoyan Armed Forces to destroy the clan and allowed the territorial militias and the various native militias to do the same as a form of legal vigilante justice.[3] Brigadier General Usti Atagulkalu, the victor of the presidential election who had significant support from the Cheasequah Front, criticized Wesa's action, stating:[4]

The Cheasequah Front is made up of very fine men who are protecting our wives and daughters from the treachery of tribal terrorism. How long until your daughter is scalped, now that the Clan is being hunted by our own government?

Wesa deployed 5,000 soldiers in some of Sequoyah's largest cities, including the capital, Asequi, and along the Creeperian border on 25 November 2020.[5] At around the same time, the 50,000 tribals in self-defense forces began to cooperating with Wesa against the Cheasequah Front.[5]

On 27 November 2020, Wesa had Atagulkalu arrested at his family plantation outside of Asequi, breaking the promise he made earlier in the month promising a peaceful transition of power from him to Atagulkalu, effectively staging a self coup and beginning the Sequoyan Civil War.[6][7] At around 10 a.m. local time, the Sequoyan Army secured the national capitol building.[7] Wesa made a radio broadcast following the events that had just unfolded, stating:[7]

My fellow Sequoyans. We have received word that President-Elect Usti Atagulkalu has aided and abetted the Cheasequah Front, a domestic terrorist group, in violation of Sequoyan law. As such, President-Elect Atagulkalu has been arrested. He will be tried by an independent tribunal for violation of Executive Order 10455. As of this moment, I am calling representatives from each provincial government to meet with me in Asequi to discuss forming a provisional government. The military is securing our cities to ensure a peaceful transition. This is a new dawn for Sequoyah. We will eliminate the terror that plagues our people. So say we all.

The arrest lead to public outcry in San Juan Diego, where 15,000 people protested Wesa's seizure of power calling the event a self coup.[8] Pro-Atagulkalu and anti-Atagulkalu demonstrators clashed in Kalgaduv with several being killed.[8] The Cheasequah Front responded to the events that unfolded by attacking the congress building of Sequoyah with 150 men, but most of their forces were killed and the attack failed.[9]

Intervention

Initial intervention

In the week before the beginning of the intervention, Creeperopolis, El Salvador, and Salisford, all members of the Cooperation and Development Coalition, moved army divisions and battalions to the Creeperian-Sequoyan border.[10][11][12][13][14]

On 5 December 2020, Augusto Cabañeras Gutiérrez, the Minister of Defense of Creeperopolis, gave a publicly broadcasted speech from the San Salvador Imperial Palace in San Salvador, Creeperopolis.[15] In the speech, he declared the formation of the Reorganized Constitutional Government of the Republic of Sequoyah and announced the establishment of the CODECO Mission in Sequoyah (COMISEQ), a Cooperation and Development Coalition peacekeeping intervention of Sequoyah.[15] Following the announcement, the Creeperian, Salvadoran, and Salisfordian forces crossed the border into Sequoyah.[16][17] The Navaja under orders of Wesa placed dynamite on the path to Caprica to cause as many casualties as possible and to use guerrilla tactics.[18] Yansa rejected CODECO's offer of power and swore his allegiance to Wesa, granting pardons to cattle rustlers, gang members, pinkertons, and other criminals to fight against COMISEQ.[19][20] The Creeperans fired artillery at Caprica throughout the day.[21]

In Lyoa, five hundred captured Sequoyans were offered freedom in exchange of fighting for the Reorganized Constitutional Government of the Republic of Sequoyah.[22] The Reorganized Sequoyan Armed Forces was formed on 5 December 2020 and was composed of 300 men.[22]

The Creeperian Air Force dispatched Maroto Botín FA-13s and MB-25s to Asequi and Nellis Airfleet Base, with those headed to Asequi tasked with destroying the Equa Tsiyu, the pride of Sequoyah, and those sent to Nellis Airfleet Base to render the base unusable.[23] The Equa Tsiyu had been abandoned by Wesa a day prior and landed in a field outside of Asequi.[20][24] At the base, twelve Viper-Class Fighters and thirty-two Bi-plane Fighters were mobilized to defend the airbase, but they did nothing to stop the Creeperian jets from destroying the base.[20][21][25] Meanwhile, the Equa Tsiyu was destroyed by the Creeperian bombers sent to destroy it.[21][25]

Reactions

In Sequoyah

Yansa, who COMISEQ proposed to be the leader of the Reorganized Constitutional Government of the Republic of Sequoyah, responded to the COMISEQ intervention force from Itse Gadu:[19]

Creeperopolis does not rule Sequoyah. Sequoyans do. We face an unprecedented time of foreign interventionism and danger for our people and we cannot allow it to taint our republican spirit. We cannot allow foreign criminals to destroy our land. I support President Wesa - he has shown his dedication to protect the liberty of all people, tribal and sequoyan. He has committed to holding new free and fair elections once the situation in Sequoyah is stabilized. I call on all people, nationalist and liberal, tribal and Sequoyan, to stand against the aggression that CODECO has brazenly displayed.

— Diwali Yansa, 5 December 2020[19]

Wesa has yet to comment on the COMISEQ intervention.[19]

International

Just as the intervention began, the Terraconserva Council of Nations convened and voted on TCN Resolution 033, To Establish a No Fly Over Zone over The Constitutional Republic of Sequoyah.[26] CODECO and the Big Three of the TCN began negations regarding the intervention and Sequoyah attempted to convince the TCN to stop the COMISEQ invasion.[27][28]

On 10 December 2020, the Deltinian Liberation Army (JTD), a Deltinian terrorist organization in southern Creeperopolis, made the following declaration regarding the intervention:[29]

The Deltinian people and the Deltinian Liberation Army fighting for Deltinian liberation whole-heartedly denounce the Creeperian-Salvadoran-Salisfordian invasion of Sequoyah. CODECO only seeks to commit atrocities in Sequoyah and seeks to align with the Natives to kill all Sequoyans. CODECO only seeks to plunder and loot Sequoyah for all its resources, rape its women, kill its men, and enslave its children. We also denounce Wesa for colluding with the Natives to destroy Sequoyan society. We demand the immediate release of Atagulkalu, as he is the legitimate President of Sequoyah. Wesa and Dustu must be immediately arrested and brought to trial for their crimes against humanity. Quebecshire, Eminople, and our brothers of Greater Sacramento need to immediately condemn COMISEQ and CODECO and topple these tyrannical regimes. If these demands to bring peace to the world are not met, there will be consequences.

— Deltinian Liberation Army, 10 December 2020[29]

On 26 December 2020, Cabañeras Gutiérrez make a speech regarding the then ongoing vote for TCN Resolution 034 and on the status of Wesa's term, that had officially ended the day before, but which he unconstitutionally extended:[30][31]

As of now, Provisional President Dustu is the only official legal government of Sequoyah. Wesa opposed Dustu's provisional presidency declaring himself to be Interim President until he resigns on 25 December and a new President, elected by the people, is inaugurated. Well, the 25th came and went, Wesa is still in office, and no President elected by the people has been inaugurated, and now, Wesa illegally and unconstitutionally extends his term indefinitely, solidifying his ambitions to reign in Sequoyah as dictator for life. Creeperopolis already withdrew recognition of Wesa's government, but now our withdrawal of recognition is final and solidified due to Wesa's blatant power grab and disregard of the constitution he so claims to abide by. Yes, Mr. Burner of the Constitution, you clearly care about the constitution.

Now that Wesa is no longer challenging the Presidency as his term has expired, CODECO will work with the Big Three to organize elections. With the upcoming passage of TCN Resolution 034, this process will be made much quicker and will be introduced more effectively. Dustu will serve as Provisional President until a new President can be elected by the people, and under Dustu, a new constitution will be created as to establish a proper functioning government in Sequoyah, and not the burning trash heap established by the rushed second constitution.

Wesa denounced Dustu as a tyrant who is unelected by the people. Well, let's see Mr. Wesa. Dustu was not elected, so according to you, he is illegitimate. Well, you were unelected. Please point to the election you won to be President. Well, there is none, so, by your logic, you are yourself illegitimate. Next, that he is a tyrant. Well, he expresses that he is provisional, which is another word for temporary if you did not know Mr. Wesa, which expressly means he does not intend to rule for long and he has promised new elections to establish a President, elected by the people. You, Mr. Wesa, arrested the President-Elect of Sequoyah and illegally extended your term indefinitely, two blatant disregards of the Constitution. Mr. Wesa, wouldn't you say that is tyrannical? Enough has been said, as your term has ended, Dustu is officially provisional president, and you aren't of need to the Sequoyan people that you have failed any longer.

Notes

  1. The Cooperation and Development Coalition Mission in Sequoyah intervention is called both an invasion and a peacekeeping intervention. Cooperation and Development Coalition and some foreign sources label it a peacekeeping intervention, while Sequoyan sources and other foreign sources label it an invasion. As of now, the Terraconserva Council of Nations has labeled it as a peacekeeping intervention force, and has not directly called it an invasion.
