Lázaro Santiago Chacón y González (Creeperian: Լըզարո Սանտիագո Ճածօն յ Գոնզըլեզ; born 1 June 1969), also known by his nickname Nuevo Santiago (Նփեվո Սանտիագո, literally meaning "New Santiago"), is a Creeperian military officer who is currently the commanding General of the 32nd Creeperian Army. He was the leader of the Creeperian forces of the CODECO Mission in Sequoyah (COMISEQ), serving with Camillo di Savotta, and the captain general of the Administrative Border Region from 2020 until 2022.

Chacón González entered the San Salvador Imperial Military Academy in 1988, graduated in 1991, and became an officer in the 11th Army. He transferred to the 32nd Army in 1995 and was promoted to his first major command, the 74th Infantry Regiment, in 2004. In May 2017, he was promoted to the rank of General and given the command of the 32nd Army. Since 2017, Chacón González organized increased anti-Militarist Front for National Liberation (FMLN) operations within the Creeperian department of Castilliano.

In December 2020, he became one of the organizers of the CODECO military intervention in Sequoyah and one of the leaders of COMISEQ. He has also served as the captain general of Creeperopolis' military occupation zone and has overseen the administration of the Sequoyan provinces of Arapaho, Eastern Sequoyah, and Itse Ulagohisdi. He has been accused of being complicit in the committing of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the military intervention and occupation by foreign observers. He has also been accused of preparing the Administrative Border Region for an illegal annexation to Creeperopolis, and those accusations intensified as annexation referendums were announced for parts of the occupation zone which were held in October 2022.

Early life and career

Lázaro Santiago Chacón y González was born on 1 July 1969 in Panachor, Zapatista, Creeperopolis. His father was José Antonio Chacón y Morales and his mother was María Anastasia González y Navarro de Chacón. He is the oldest of three children, with his younger siblings being Nicolasa (born 1972) and Armando (born 1974). Chacón González's father wanted him to become a physician, but he instead pursued a career in the Creeperian Navy.

He entered the San Salvador Imperial Military Academy in 1988 to study naval military strategy, but decided to change which military branch he would serve in and transferred to the Creeperian Army. He graduated from the military academy in September 1991 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. His first major deployment was in his home department of Zapatista as a part of the Mara War, where he was involved in several military operations against the various criminal gangs and drug cartels the government was fighting against.

In July 1995, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and was transferred from the 11th Army to the 32nd Army. There, he participated in military operations in Castilliano against the Militarist Front for National Liberation (FMLN) as a part of the Castillianan Insurgency. In 2001, he also engaged in operations against the Society of Deltinian Brothers (SOHEDEL) and the Holy Army of al-Mutasim (SEM) in San Juan as a part of the Deltinian Insurgency.

In September 2004, he received his first major command role, when he was promoted to the rank of Colonel and given the command of the 74th Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to Brigadier in 2008 and given the command of the 72nd Infantry Battalion, and then in 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and given the command of the 84th Infantry Division.

Command of the 32nd Army

On 8 May 2017, Chacón González was approved by the country's Field Marshals to be promoted to the rank of General and the supreme command of the 32nd Army. He allegedly celebrated his promotion by ordering the executions of eight captured FMLN fighters, but there is no solid evidence proving he ordered such executions.

Anti-FMLN actions

As the commander of the 32nd Army, Chacón González led an increased focus on targeting FMLN leaders, leading to many of their deaths or arrests since 2017. Most notably, in July 2020, he assisted the National Intelligence Directorate (DINA), the country's intelligence agency, in a raid which led to the arrest of Jacobo Graciani Juderías, the ex-mayor of San Salvador del Oeste who attempted to assassinate Emperor Alexander II in June 2013.[1]

He considers his anti-FMLN operations and actions to be a "new crusade" against "crime and degeneracy" in the Castillianan departments of Creeperopolis. For his leadership, he has earned the nickname of "Nuevo Santiago" (Նփեվո Սանտիագո), which literally means "New Santiago". The nickname is in reference to the legendary figure of Santiago Matadeltinianos, who allegedly appeared at the Battle of Sahagún in May 1276 and helped the Kingdom of Castilliano defeat the outnumbering forces of the Caliphate of Deltino. Due to his nickname, after his leadership resulting the in the capture of Graciani Juderías, he was awarded the grand collar grade of the Order of Santiago Matadeltinianos by Emperor Alexander II in September 2020.

Leadership of COMISEQ

On 5 December 2020, the Cooperation and Development Coalition (CODECO) launched a joint-military intervention in Sequoyah during the Sequoyan Civil War.[2] The intervention force, known as the CODECO Mission in Sequoyah (COMISEQ) consisted of military forces from Creeperopolis and Salisford. Chacón González was chosen by the Creeperian Armed Forces to lead the Creeperian forces during the intervention, and chose divisions from the 32nd Army to participate.

Chacón González was appointed by the Creeperian government as the captain general of the Administrative Region of the Sequoyan Border and Eastern Sequoyah, Creeperopolis' military occupation zone, on the day the intervention started. His forces supported those of the Reorganized Constitutional Government of the Republic of Sequoyah (RCGRS), the provisional government established by CODECO, which was led by Captain Atohi Dustu, a Sequoyan commander who was selected to serve as Sequoyah's provisional president by CODECO.[3]

As captain general, Chacón González has assisted Dustu during the Battle of San Juan Diego in February 2020. He also supported Dustu's government in his proposed infrastructure projects, including the connection of Sequoyah's rail network to that of Creeperopolis and the construction of solar panel farms to produce energy for the country.[4] He was present at the 1 June Agreement between the Creeperian and Sequoyan governments which negotiated an end to the COMISEQ occupation by December 2022. As a part of the agreement, Sequoyah agreed to hold referendums in its border regions with Creeperopolis to determine wether they will be annexed to Creeperopolis, and Chacón González encouraged Creeperans in the regions subject to the referendums to vote in favor of annexation.[5] The referendums ended in Navidad and San Juan Diego voting for annexation to Creeperopolis.[6]

Politics

Chacón González joined the Creeperian Initiative, Creeperopolis' sole legal political party, on 1 June 1987, his 18th birthday. Prior to joining the party, he was a member of the party's youth wing, the Young Creeperans (JÓCRE), and during the period between joining the party in June 1987 and entering the military academy in January 1988, he was a member of the Romerist Nationalist Front (FNR), the party's paramilitary wing.
