BIC Adolfo Martínez Hernández (BIC–78) (CreeperianCreeperian: ԲԻԾ Ադոլֆո Մարտձնեզ Հերնընդեզ (ԲԻԾ–78)) is a aircraft carrier of the Creeperian Navy. The aircraft carrier is named after Adolfo Martínez Hernández, the eldest son of Emperor Adolfo III. He held the title of Prince of Extremadura, the heir apparent to the throne of Creeperopolis, from 1833 until his death in 1855.

The ship is the lead and only ship of her class, the AMH–class aircraft carrier. It is the second aircraft carrier of Creeperopolis and is scheduled to replace BIC Emperador Adolfo III (BIC–68) aircraft carrier, which was commissioned in 1976. It was launched on 2 October 2021 and completed and commissioned on 15 March 2022. It is one of the only two aircraft carriers ever to be in the possession of Surian nation, with the other being Emperador Adolfo III. Its commanding officer is Bernardo Yagüe Melléndez. It is a part of the 1st Naval Sector of the 22nd Creeperian Naval Fleet in the 19th Creeperian Flotilla.

Naming

In 2013, the Creeperian Navy petitioned the Ministry of Defense of Creeperopolis to provide funding for a new aircraft carrier to replace the aging BIC Emperador Adolfo III (BIC–68) which was about to enter its 40th year of service by 2016. The Ministry of Defense accepted the Navy's request, and on 26 January 2014, the Creeperian government officially ordered a new aircraft carrier.[1]

Díaz–Mori Shipbuilding was tasked with designing and constructing the new ship. The Ministry of Defense placed a deadline of 26 January 2016 to decide on a name for the aircraft carrier. Captain Alfonso Santacilia Juárez, the officer in command of Emperador Adolfo III, suggested naming the aircraft carrier the Emperador Romero I to keep a trend of naming the Navy's aircraft carriers after previous monarchs.[1]

Rear Admiral Fernando Velasco Malaspina, the commander of the 12th Creeperian Naval Sector, suggested the name Rey Miguel I since the Navy was established during his reign on 16 April 1301.[1] Chief Admiral José Guerrero López rejected both suggesting, stating that he wanted the Navy to name the aircraft carrier after a figure who was not a monarch of Creeperopolis, but instead, someone else who is a significant figure in Creeperian military history.

Admiral Romero Duarte Magaña, the commander of the 19th Creeperian Flotilla, suggested the name Leónidas Trujillo Molina after Chief Admiral Leónidas Trujillo Molina who was a significant figure during the Creeperian Civil War before his term as Chief Admiral. Another suggestion by Vice Admiral José Tejón Ugarte, the commander of the 2nd Creeperian Naval Fleet, was Jorge Montt Álvarez after Chief Admiral Jorge Montt Álvarez, the first to hold the position and a significant figure during the Revolution of 1833.[1]

Admiral José Ureña Dávalos of the 16th Creeperian Flotilla suggested the name Adolfo Martínez Hernández after Grand Prince Adolfo Martínez Hernández, the eldest son of Emperor Adolfo III. On 26 January 2016, Guerrero López accepted the name suggestion Adolfo Martínez Hernández and officially named the aircraft carrier BIC Adolfo Martínez Hernández (BIC–78). He gave the reasoning that the aircraft carrier is, in a sense, the son of Emperador Adolfo III, and that it would only be appropriate to name it after Adolfo III's son.[1]

The name of the carrier's class was officialized as the AMH–class on 27 January 2016. The official and complete name of the aircraft carrier is the BIC Adolfo Salvador Vidal de la'Santa Trinidad de San Alfonso y San Miguel Martínez de Llachaumán y Hernández de Guerrero (BIC–78), however, because of the long length of the official name, in most official capacities, the aircraft carrier is referred to as simply BIC Adolfo Martínez Hernández (BIC–78).

History

Construction

The ship in September 2019.

Finalized ship plans were completed on 7 July 2017 by Díaz–Mori Shipbuilding and were submitted to the Navy and Ministry of Defense for final approval. The Navy approved of the design on 20 July 2017 and the Ministry of Defense approved the design on 28 July 2017. Construction of Adolfo Martínez Hernández began on 6 September 2017 in Adolfosburg, Adolfosburg, Creeperopolis. The ship was laid down in dry dock 143, the one used to construct Emperador Adolfo III, as it was the largest dry dock in the city that Díaz–Mori Shipbuilding owned.

The ship in October 2021.

The ship was planned to be launched on 2 October 2021 and officially completed on 15 March 2022,[2] with commission by the Creeperian Navy following shortly afterwards. According to the Ministry of Defense, the aircraft carrier will cost a total of ₡102.4 billion colóns.[note 1] The ship launched on the scheduled date.[3] The ship was commissioned into service the same date it was completed.

Command

On 7 April 2021, the Creeperian Navy announced that Commander Bernardo Óscar Yagüe y Melléndez, the commanding officer of BIC Apopa (BIC–52) was promoted to Captain and would be placed in command of Adolfo Martínez Hernández.[4] As a part of the 1st Naval Sector, 22nd Creeperian Naval Fleet, and 19th Creeperian Flotilla, Adolfo Martínez Hernández is also under the command of Rear Admiral Orlando Vega Rosales, Vice Admiral Jeremías Alvarado Ortega, and Admiral Gustavo Valcárcel Zalabardo.

Service history

Adolfo Martínez Hernández sailed to the Admiral Cristóbal Colón Cámarillo Naval Base in Cámarillo, San Carlos Islands, in June 2021, where its homeport was designated. The ship did not participate in the events of the 2022 Bacchante incident, as the flotilla thought the ship would be unnecessary as it would provide little practical support in the event and would be a waste of resources.
