Early life
Santiago José Azaña y Yagüe was born on 11 September 1959 in San Romero, San Romero, Creeperopolis. His father was José Ramón Azaña y Castillo and his mother was María Barbara Yagüe y Hidalgo de Azaña, both of whom worked for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Creeperopolis. Both of his parents wanted him to become a government worker for the ministry, but they wanted him to avoid military service like his father had been forced to do from 1946 to 1950 during the Creeperian Civil War, fighting in the Siege of San Salvador and the Battle of the Zapatista River on the side of the Catholic Imperial Restoration Council as a soldier.
Azaña Yagüe attended the Emperor Romero I School for Boys from 1964 to 1972, and then, the Don Padre José Delgado León School from 1973 to 1976. During his time at both schools, he got to know and became friends with Augusto Cabañeras Gutiérrez, the grandson of Alfonso Cabañeras Moreno, the Minister of Defense of Creeperopolis from 1944 to 1976, and the son of Emmanuel Cabañeras Videla, the Minister of Defense of Creeperopolis from 1976 to 2002. He himself became Minister of Defense of Creeperopolis on 19 October 2002.
He took the 1976 National University Acceptance Exam (EXACUN) with the goal of passing, which would permit him to avoid military conscription and enter college. In the exam, he scored 1,031 out of 1,326, 161 above the average that year of 870. With his passing, he avoided military conscription, and his parents sent him to Antonio José Sáenz Heredia University, one of the most prestigious universities in Creeperopolis. There, he studied Political Science & Government, Economics, and Judicial Sciences, graduating in 1981 with bachelor's degrees in all three. He later returned to complete his Master's in Political Science & Government, which he completed in 1983.
Career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Little is known about Azaña Yagüe's early career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but it is speculated that he had worked his way up through management positions in various departments of the ministry. He became a high ranking official within the ministry by 1999 during the Alfonsisto.
On 18 June 2003, the Creeperian Armed Forces staged a coup d'état and overthrew the government of Emperor Alfonso VI. During the subsequent purges of government officials, the then Minister of Internal Affairs, Carlos Menem Menem, was arrested and later executed on 19 July 2003 by the Romerist Military Junta. Cabañeras Gutiérrez, who was one of the leaders of the coup d'état, selected to make Azaña Yagüe as the next Minister of Internal Affairs.
Minister of Internal Affairs
Azaña Yagüe became Minister of Internal Affairs on 15 September 2003 when the Romerist Military Junta officially dissolved.

Marriage and children
Azaña Yagüe married Marcela Dominga Ureña y Monroy on 29 May 1985 in La'Libertad, La'Libertad del Norte. They have four children:
- María Marcela Azaña y Ureña (born 1988)
- Martín Santiago Azaña y Ureña (born 1992)
- Romero Adolfo Azaña y Ureña (born 1995)
- Anastasía Fátima Azaña y Ureña (born 2000)
Azaña Yagüe has employed his three eldest children in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and is expected to do the same for his youngest daughter when she graduates from college and completes her Master's.
