César Armando Librado y Legorreta (Creeperian: Ծէսար Արմանդո Լիբրադո Լեգորրետա; 1981 – 1 August 2021), also known by nickname and pseudonym El Asesino Sureño (Creeperian: Ել Ասեսինո Սփրեթո; translated as: The Southern Assassin), was a Creeperian assassin and serial killer who was also member of the gang Los'Sureños.

Between 1996 and 2011, Librado Legorreta murdered twenty-five people, including ten rival gang members, six police officers, four Creeperian politicians, two members of the Senvarian Liberation Front, a government driver, and a lawyer. He was considered to be the most feared active serial killer in Creeperopolis due to the amount of people he murdered and in the fashion that some of the murders were committed, including car bombings and mass shootings. All of his victims were murdered in the southern Creeperian viceroyalties of Abdan, Jakiz, San Salvador, Senvar, and Zapatista, and in the Creeperian client state of the State of the Church.

Librado Legorreta was arrested on 18 January 2012 in a raid by the National Intelligence Directorate, and was charged and convicted of twenty-five counts of murder, four counts of assassinating a government official, thirty-six counts of attempted murder, and terrorism, on 25 January 2012. He was sent to the Tuxtla Martínez–Panachor Maximum Correctional Facility (TMP) on 30 January 2012. Librado Legorreta was executed by firing squad on 1 August 2021 for his role in the murder of a prison guard.

Early life

César Armando Librado y Legorreta was born in 1981 in eastern Denshire, the capital city of the southern Creeperian viceroyalty of Jakiz. His father was Jacobo Augusto Librado Díaz, a carpenter, and his mother was Amelia Esmeralda Legorreta Loera, the owner of a small local convenience store. He had a younger brother, Julio Nicolás Librado Legorreta, who was born in 1984. When Librado Legorreta was five years old, he began to help his mother in operating the family owned store, and when he was ten years old, he began to help his father with his carpentry work.

In January 1995, when Librado Legorreta was fourteen years old, his father was shot and murdered while walking home from buying more wood for his carpentry work. He was murdered by a group of members of the gang Mara Salvatrucha. Later that year in August 1995, his mother was kidnapped and the family's store was raided and burned to the ground. As the store was inside of the family's home, Librado Legorreta and his brother became homeless and orphaned.

Murder spree

Late-1990s murders

Sometime between August 1995 and December 1995, Librado Legorreta was introduced to members of the gang Los'Sureños who made him a member of the gang at only the age of fifteen. As a part of his initiation, he had to kill a member of Mara Salvatrucha. On 17 January 1996, Librado Legorreta murdered Alfonso Ulises Galán y Pérez, a prominent local leader of Mara Salvatrucha. The murder caught the attention of both Mara Salvatrucha and the Creeperian Imperial Police (PIC) as Galán Pérez had ordered over thirty murders of Los'Sureños gang members and local politicians between 1980 and 1995. Librado Legorreta refused to make his name public, as he wanted to "be a shadow enemy to our enemies," and as such, he was known to the public as "The Southern Assassin" as that is how he referred to himself at the scene of Galán Pérez's murder.

On 13 June 1996, Librado Legorreta murdered his next victims, José Gustavo Hidalgo y Velázquez, a member of Mara Salvatrucha who had previously been known to have ordered the murders of twenty rival gang leaders, and his wife, Verónica Anabel Guzmán y Figueroa de Hidalgo. The following day, he was confronted by a Creeperian police officer regarding the murders the prior day, and in fear of being arrested, Librado Legorreta murdered the police officer, Armando Gonzalo Alvarado y Herrador. The murder of Alvarado Herrador especially gained the attention of the Creeperian Imperial Police, which placed a bounty of $50,000 dollars on Alvarado Herrador's murderer, which the PIC referred to as Librado Legorreta self-given pseudonym, The Southern Assassin.

Gustavo Federico Fuentes y Encarnación, the then-Mayor of Denshire, called for civilians in Denshire to report any information to the Creeperian Imperial Police which would lead to the arrest of The Southern Assassin. Librado Legorreta plotted to assassinate Fuentes Encarnación as his next target, but he knew that assassinating a high-profile Creeperian government official would almost certainly get the National Intelligence Directorate (DINA) involved in arresting him. On 8 April 1997, while Fuentes Encarnación was in transit to the Denshire City Hall, Librado Legorreta detonated a car bomb along Fuentes Encarnación's route, killing him and four other people, and injuring twenty-six more. The assassination of Fuentes Encarnación made national news, as a Mayor of Denshire had not been killed in office since José Núñez Barceló was murdered by the Militarist Nationalist Militia in a vigilante execution during the 13 June 1944 Denshire Massacre of the Creeperian Civil War. Caudillol Emmanuel Cabañeras Videla, the Minister of Defense and Intelligence of Creeperopolis at the time, announced that the DINA would immediately begin efforts to arrest The Southern Assassin, referring to Librado Legorreta as an "anti-government terrorist and anarchist." He was added to the DINA Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list on 10 April 1997, making him one of the most wanted men in Creeperopolis. Now as one of the most wanted men in Creeperopolis, Librado Legorreta fled Jakiz to evade arrest. While in Abdan in 1999, he was approached by two police officers, but he murdered both of them in fear of being arrested.

2000s murders

On 1 January 2000, signed a ceasefire with Mara Salvatrucha, where the government promised to no longer arrest its gang members nor execute its gang members in exchange for a cessation in the criminal activities of the gang. The ceasefire enraged many civilians, and especially Mara Salvatrucha's rival gangs.

Mario Villanueva Madrid, Mayor of Tuxtla Martínez (1997–2015), was almost assassinated by Librado Legorreta in 2000. Villanueva Madrid himself was arrested by the DINA in 2015 and sent to Tuxtla Martínez–Panachor like Librado Legorreta.

Librado Legorreta was especially enraged by the ceasefire, as Mara Salvatrucha was the gang which had effectively ruined his life. He planned to exert revenge on politicians who were involved with the ceasefire. On 30 November 2000, Librado Legorreta planted and detonated a bomb near the Tuxtla Martínez City Hall. The bomb killed Julio Armando Galván y Nores, the Chief of Police of Zapatista, Alfonso Jorge Moreno y Dávalos, the Mayor of Panachor, and a police officer. The bomb also injured Mario Villanueva Madrid, the Mayor of Tuxtla Martínez, and seven other people. The DINA linked the bombing to The Southern Assassin and launched an operation to arrest as many members of Los'Sureños in Zapatista as possible, as the gang had been identified as being the affiliation of The Southern Assassin.

Librado Legorreta quickly fled Zapatista west for Senvar in an effort to evade arrest. In Senvar, he was stopped by two patrolling members of the Senvarian Liberation Front (SKBF) who believed that he was possibly an undercover DINA agent. Librado Legorreta murdered the two SKBF soldiers and fled north for the State of the Church, fearing retaliation from the SKBF.

While in the State of the Church in 2007, Librado Legorreta's home was invaded by two members of Mara Salvatrucha, who had mistaken it for the home of a rival Los'Muchachos gang member's home who they were tasked in kidnapping. During the home invasion, Librado Legorreta managed to disarm and subdue the two gang members, tying them up. He put them into the back of his truck and drove north into an isolated area. There, he tortured one by opening his chest and pulling out the gang members still beating heart, forcing the other to watch. He then decapitated the second and left a message at the scene reading "The Southern Assassin is still alive and well and searching out Mara Salvatrucha and those responsible for the Peace of 2000." The double murder was the first he committed since 2000, which had led many to believe that he had died, and the first murder of a member of Mara Salvatrucha since 1996, when he began his murder spree. Librado Legorreta murdered another member of Mara Salvatrucha in 2008, and later traveled east for San Salvador with the intention of killing more members of Mara Salvatrucha there.

Early-2010s murders

Librado Legorreta committed his first murder in San Salvador on 6 March 2010 when he murdered someone who he believed was a member of Mara Salvatrucha, but the person he actually murdered was Luís Vicente González y Payés, the former Mayor of Denilla. He left a note declaring that he had committed the murder at the scene, but because it was an ex-Mayor of Denilla, the DINA immediately heightened efforts to arrest Librado Legorreta as he had now began to assassinate politicians in the capital viceroyalty of Creeperopolis. Librado Legorreta later murdered two members of Mara Salvatrucha in late-2010, and murdered two more in mid-2011. He murdered his final victim, Mara Salvatrucha gang member Arnoldo Fidel Guevara Sánchez, on 16 October 2011 in South Serrada, San Salvador.

Arrest and incarceration

The National Intelligence Directorate had been planning several attempts to capture or kill The Southern Assassin since 1997, but the DINA never was able to do so as the agency lacked sufficient evidence on his whereabouts to carry out a successful operation. In late-2011, however, a lead was sent in to the DINA that The Southern Assassin was taking shelter in La'Victoria, La'Unión, and that he was plotting to murder more members of Mara Salvatrucha in the city. The anonymous individual who made the tip provided evidence of his tip's authenticity, and the DINA concluded that the lead was genuine and that an operation to arrest or kill The Southern Assassin was able to proceed.

On 18 January 2012, the National Intelligence Directorate dispatched sixteen DINA agents to La'Victoria to carry out Operation Alvarado Herrador to arrest or kill The Southern Assassin. The DINA agents broke into The Southern Assassin's suspected hideout, and a shootout ensued between the suspect and the DINA agents. After five minutes, the DINA managed to disarm, subdue, and arrest the suspect. The suspect was identified as Librado Legorreta and his identity as The Southern Assassin was confirmed the following day.

Librado Legorreta was formally charged with twenty-five counts of murder, four counts of assassinating a government official, thirty-four counts of attempted murder, and terrorism. On 25 January 2012, he was found guilty of and convicted on all sixty-four charges by the Imperial Court of Justice and sentenced to 87,487 years imprisonment with the possibility of being executed in the future. He was sent to the Tuxtla Martínez–Panachor Maximum Correctional Facility (TMP), the highest security prison in Creeperopolis, in Tuxtla Martínez–Panachor, Zapatista, on 30 January 2012. His prisoner identification number was TMP20120031.

On 1 August 2021, Librado Legorreta assaulted a prison guard, stole his gun, and shot the guard, killing him. In a statement released by Director Onésimo Ledesma Soriano, Librado Legorreta's sentence was promoted to death. He was executed that same day at 3:13 p.m. TSS by firing squad.
