Carlos Francisco Videla y Velásquez, Duke of Videla-Velásquez (19 January 1770 – 22 September 1835) was a Creeperian military officer, soldier, and politician. He served as the captain general of Xichútepa from 1818 to 1833. In 1833, he proclaimed the establishment of the Northern Confederation breakaway state and was elected as its president.
Early life
Carlos Francisco Videla y Velásquez was born on 19 January 1770 in Nuevo Xichútepa, Xichútepa, Creeperopolis. His father was Nicolás Emmanuel Videla y Fuentes and his mother was Leonora Isabela Velásquez y Tejón de Videla. He had two younger sisters, Juana (born 1771) and María (born 1774). His father was a military officer in the Creeperian Army; on 4 July 1771, his father participated in the Revolution of Restoration which brought an end to the First Parliamentary Era of Creeperopolis and made King Manuel III an absolute monarch.
In 1786, at the age of sixteen, Videla Velásquez joined the Creeperian Army as an enlisted soldier during the War of the Creeperian Succession. He joined the war on the side his father was fighting for, the Manuelists. The faction supported the claim of Emperor Manuel IV, the eldest son of Manuel III, against that of the Salvadorists who supported the claim of Salvador III, another son of Manuel III. During the war, Videla Velásquez fought during the Battle of Suchitoto in 1788 and the Battle of Denshire in 1790.
