The Cathedral of Christ the King (Creeperian Spanish: Catedral de Cristo Rey) is the principal church of the Creeperian Catholic Archdiocese of San Salvador and the secondary seat of the Archbishop of San Salvador.
The cathedral's construction was ordered by Emperor Adolfo III in 1838 with construction beginning in 1839. The cathedral was completed and consecrated by Pope Gregorio XVI on 15 September 1845.
The cathedral was completely destroyed in early 1947 during the Creeperian Civil War and the Battle of San Salvador. The cathedral was rebuilt from 1949 to 1953 and reconsecrated on 30 September 1953 by Pope Pio XII. Emperor Romero I, leader of the Catholic Imperial Restoration Council from 1933 to 1946 during the Creeperian Civil War, was buried in the cathedral on 4 October 1953 and he would be canonized as a saint in San Pedro's Basilica in 1987 by Pope Juan Pablo II.
