The Caliphate of the Southern Deltinians (Deltinian: الخلافة في جنوب الدلتين; transliterated: al-Khīlafat fi Janub al-Dilatayn), more commonly known as the Aljanub Caliphate (Deltinian: خلافة الجنوب; transliterated: ‘Khīlafat al-Janub), was a rump state of the Caliphate of Deltino.
In June 1326, the 607-year reign of the Caliphate of Deltino was ended by the Kingdom of Creeperopolis after the fall of Almadinat Almuqadasa, the caliphate's capital city since the yer 875. In the wake of the caliphate's fall and the death of its caliph, Salim VI bin Abu Arshad, one of the caliph's generals, Yusuf al-Dhahir, proclaimed himself as caliph and the successor of Salim VI, proclaiming the establishment of a new caliphate in the southern outskirts of Deltino's former territories. Al-Dhahir was recognized as caliph by the vast majority of Deltinian Muslims under his direct control, and under the control of three allied states which bordered his realm: the emirates of Abdan, Helam, and Jakiz.
Etymology
The official name of the caliphate was the Caliphate of the Southern Deltinians (Deltinian: الخلافة في جنوب الدلتين; transliterated: al-Khīlafat fi Janub al-Dilatayn). Modern historians simply refer to the caliphate as the Aljanub Caliphate (Deltinian: خلافة الجنوب; transliterated: ‘Khīlafat al-Janub), with Aljanub meaning "Southern." Although it should be properly rendered as "al-Janub," contemporary Creeperian scribes transliterated the Deltinian term as "Aljanub" instead, and their rendition of the term has remained as the "proper" historical way to refer to the caliphate.
