Jackson, officially the United States of Jackson, is a medium-sized country primarily located in the southwest of the continent Ecros, with territory in Tierrasur. Mainland Jackson—Located on Ecros—is bordered to the east by x, through its ownership of Lake Manal and the Jack River, to the west by Pennalla and Kivu, and to the north by x. Jackson's largest city and capital of Jacksonville City is located near its eastern land-border on the Jack River. With an area of 673,066 sq mi (1,743,230 km2), divided up into ten states and 841 counties, Jackson is the 11th largest nation in Ecros and 23rd in the world. As of 2023, Jackson was estimated to have a population of 97 million, making it the 8th most populated nation in the world.

Jackson was a disorganized collection of many states until the Battle of Yeronia, where the Romanyan Empire invaded many of the disassociated tribes that lived in Jackson. Under Romanyan ownership, the Romanyan alphabet was introduced and the region adapted the Romanyan language as its primary language. The territory obtained independence from the Romanyan Empire in 680AD. The region split into many small states competing for regional influence, but ultimately the region was united after many local invasions by the Kingdom of Janusolm.

Jackson is the headquarters of the military alliance ACES and economic alliance JASAREPA. Jackson is also a member of the Ostlandet Union and Regional Organization of the Kivu Ocean. Jackson has independent mutral defense treaties with Paleocacher and Quebecshire, called x and the Treaty of Orléans and Benice respectively. Jackson has further economic ties with Quebecshire and Eleutherios under the Nemeth Accords. As of 2023, Jackson has a GDP of ₵4.76 trillion Quebecshirite Credits, making it the 5th largest economy in Terraconserva. For a brief period of time, 1962-1968, Jackson was the second largest economy, only beaten by Quebecshire. The modern day Jackian economy is based on manufacturing, financial services, and tourism.

Modern Jackson is considered a Full Democracy under the Global Democracy Index. Jackson has 3 political parties that hold power in the government—the Social Democratic Party, the Green Party, and the People's Party. Jackson is the nation with the largest share of female politicians, with 43% of all political offices held by women.[1] The government of Jackson grants citizens freedoms of speech, press, religion, language, sexuality, and abortion. Jackson is also notable for its low income inequality and poverty rates. Despite these freedoms, Jackian politicians have often been described as corrupt, with the most famous case of corruption being the 2001 Montcrabin refugee crisis involving then president Beau Lush, with many similar instances in lower offices.

Etymology

The name of Jackson originated in 667 A.D. preceding the dissolution of the Romanyan Empire. At this time, Jackson was referred to as Yeronia. The name Jackson (Janusolm) originated from the Romanyan words for entrance "janua" and land "solum" and was used as an unofficial name of the colony. After the collapse of Romanya, Janusolm was made the official name of the new independent kingdom, with its capital being Janusolm Civita (city). As the language of Jackson naturally became more distant from ancient Romanyan, "Janusolm" shifted into the word "Jackson" and "Janusolm Civita" combined into "Jacksonville". When the Citystate of Jacksonville was officially established, the city of Jacksonville was renamed into Jacksonville City to distinguish it from the nation, and Jackson was still used as the unofficial nation name until the establishment of the Jackson Empire.

Energy Grid

Graph Showing The Distribution of Energy Sources in Jackson Over Time

The energy grid of Jackson is highly varied, with most power production from nuclear, gasoline, and oil.[2] Since 2015, the Jackian Agency of Clean Energy, a government branch of the Environmental Affairs Office[lower-alpha 1], has been subsidizing new nuclear, Desherium, solar, wind, and hydroelectric projects. By 2035, Jackson is slated to become a carbon-neutral nation. Jackson currently invests $109 billion Jackian dollars in developing new renewable energy.[3] An important factor in Jackson's transition to a carbon-neutral energy grid has been the development of Desherium fusion power. Desherium fusion is a relatively clean and safe form of energy that has the potential to provide as much, or more energy than traditional nuclear energy. In addition to its investments in renewable energy, Jackson has also taken steps to improve the efficiency of its energy grid. This has included upgrading transmission lines and developing new ways to store energy.
