Askanelle, officially the Grand Armed Republic of Askanelle (Aarellian: الرآبوابلئك هأنتابآل ىدارآ اك اسكانآلوك), is a landlocked, medium-sized nation in central Ecros. It is bordered by only one country to the southeast: Desheria. Askanelle's capital is Eskiiroraa, but its largest city is Haashmiiniitaa. The country is predominantly Realitist, with the largest minorities being Christians and Muslims. The national language of Askanelle is Aarellian, with many citizens speaking the Askani dialect rather than the International dialect. The Askani people of Askanelle are considered as Unjic: a race of people originating from Central Ecros.

Etymology

The name for Askanelle is believed to have originated from the ancient god Aaskenok (Aarellian: اسكآنوك) from the Askani belief of Realitism. Eventually, the Unjic people of the area formed the Land Under Aaskenok. The name of this ancient civilization would eventually evolve through language changes. Aaskenok eventually became the word for Askanelle in Aarellian: Aaskaanelok.

History

Ancient times

The Land Under Aaskenok

Main article: The Land Under Aaskenok

Around the modernly uninhabited areas of central Ecros, an Unjic people emerged. Their language, known today as Ancient Aarellian, was deemed one of the most complex. Today, Ancient Aarellian is considered a very dead language, as it is virtually impossible to learn it. Ancient Aarellian was only spoken and an alphabet wasn't made for it, therefore it was forgotten. These Unjic persons believed in a monotheistic religion in which a sort of "god of war" was worshipped as the only god: Aaskenok. Eventually, the area inhabited by the Unjic people was deemed the Land Under Aaskenok. The nation considered military conquest and violence as a method of worship to Aaskenok, going on to commit great homicides against other Unjic people who chose not to convert to Ancient Askanism.

Transformation into democracy

Main article: The Democratic Change

A group of Askani rebels in the Land Under Aaskenok were not satisfied with the monarchic government of their nation, and they began rebellions. Domdens dedicated to Aaskenok were burned and destroyed, stores were robbed of all their goods, and even people were disemboweled by the rebels. This trouble eventually led to the assassination of Eskir Maajher. Many stories tell of exactly how Maajher was killed, but it is commonly agreed upon that a rebel went into his house and decapitated Maajher while he was asleep.

After the assassination of Eskir Maajher, the rebels went on to promote a more free system of government, a government in which the people would be able to decide how their lives could be managed. With a unanimous agreement from the public, a more democratic system evolved. A constitution was written by many famous politicians in the nation. The most popular, a man by the name of Baagreniish Faaheriiz, was chosen to be the one to write it. A legislation was founded and with it, a new republic.

Middle Ages

The First Ecrosian Republic of Askanelle

The FER of Askanelle had a very unstable start, with many rebel groups of the new democratic system emerging out of spite. These organizations eventually united to form the first Askani revolutionary groups, established as the Askani Destiny League (ADL). The ADL began repeating the Democratic Change all over again. An era of mayhem started by the ADL commenced during the peak of the FER of Askanelle. Once more, Askanist domdens were demolished and more stores were robbed. Eventually they took control of Mefrenkiil (now Keprel), a town that was known to be the "blacksmithing capital" of Askanelle at the time. The government, instead of choosing to solve the problem peacefully, had a different idea.

Brutal Saturday

The legislation of the FER of Askanelle chose to enact the Maanaafojhel Law, which caused a major ADL uprising during the late 49th century BC. The Askani military was already prepared for the advance of the ADL's forces. A few minutes after about 400 ADL soldiers arrived in the area, a large battalion of 4,500 Askani soldiers ambushed the ADL, committing a genocide that would be known today as Brutal Saturday. The ADL eventually fell due to the realization that revolution wasn't worth losing more lives in their organization.

The Second Ecrosian Republic of Askanelle

Main article: The Second Ecrosian Republic of Askanelle

The Unjic people of the many tribes that emerged in the 9th century BC eventually chose to unite through a series of diplomatic meetings that a new nation would be formed. Through yet another vigorous process, the people attempted to recreate the constitution of the FER of Askanelle. However, the authors were careful to look over this constitution as not to create a new version of the ADL to cause trouble in the republic. With this, the Second Ecrosian Republic of Askanelle was established in 670 BC.

There was one issue that the authors of Askanelle's constitution didn't consider in the beginning, however. The cultural differences of the united tribes caused a lot of dispute in the nation, such as religious conflicts and internal border disputes. A specific tribe, known to the SER of Askanelle as the Kobrenduu Province at the time, was especially angry with its neighboring provinces. The central government of the SER of Askanelle got involved, putting arrest warrants out for any person responsible for fueling the fire. However, this did not help, as the provinces began creating truces with one another. Eventually, two internal "alliances" were formed: deemed North and South Askanelle (see their respective pages: North Askanelle, South Askanelle). The government-backed north would eventually fire the first shots to start the First Askani Civil War.

The First Askani Civil War
Main article: War of Broken Land

A village on the "border" between North and South Askanelle known today as Kever (Village) caused the main spark of the first civil war. A young Christian man known as Kuugriint Pefkuush used a bow to shoot an arrow into the head of an Realitist elder of another village on the other side of the border. Politicians in support of South Askanelle, in response to this, enacted the Vengeance of Murder Law. This law allowed South Askanelle to create arrest warrants for troublemakers of North Askanelle if a crime were to be committed in the southern region. North Askanelle, rightfully distasteful with the new law, decided to send a declaration of war down to the de facto government of South Askanelle.

As the civil war went on, the two sides became more and more violent, committing various atrocities against one another. However, there was one key reason as to why the North won the war. With support from the central government, North Askanelle was able to recover their losses. South Askanelle, on the other hand, had an extremely corrupt and unstable parliament in which could not afford to support the war. As both sides fought tooth and nail, they would split apart due to the two sides of Askanelle becoming exhausted with the war. Secessionist movements within both nations eventually caused the democratic governments to devolve into several small kingdoms once more.

This looks somewhat better by comparison.
