The 2023 Monsilvan federal election was held on Sunday 18 June 2023 to elect members of the 43rd Parliament of Monsilva. This was the first federal election where the Legislative Assembly results and Senate results were merged. It was also the first election with Monsilva's new IRV voting system and the first using the new legislative constituencies which increased seats in the Legislative Assembly to 454 from 254. The election took place just over a year earlier than it usually would have due to the terms of the Electoral Reform Act 2023 which automatically called an election 94 days after its passing. The passing of the act also lead to the resignation of Xu Yan as Leader of the Reformed National Party on the 10 June after a leadership election which placed Bao Hsueh as the new leader. The RNP still sought to win a third term, however the Democratic Coalition, lead by Lin Yao-tang defeated them by a wide margin.
Although the Democratic Coalition won the election, they did not manage to reach a majority. However, instead of seeking an additional member to the coalition or a re-election, Lin Yao-tang, struck a confidence and supply agreement with the Liberal Party. The agreement was organized in advance, and many political analysts suspect that Lin Yao-tang's close relationship with the party in the past assisted the formation of the agreement. The Freedom and Democracy Party, the largest party in the coalition, and the parliament, had been in power 7 years earlier under Lee Su and Suen Shi-huang who ran Monsilva's government for just under 18 years.

Electoral system
Members of the Legislative Assembly are elected by instant-runoff voting. Each legislative constituency elects one member to the assembly. At the same time, electors also vote for a representative in the senate using closed list proportional representation, with each state having between 2 and 17 senators designated to them.
Candidates
Candidates for either house must have been formally nominated with the Electoral Commission. The nomination for a party-endorsed candidate must be signed by the Registered Officer of a party registered under the Electoral Act; 100 signatures of eligible voters are required for an independent candidate. A candidate can nominate for only one electorate, and must pass a number of qualifications. A deposit of ¥8,200 was required for a candidate for the Legislative Assembly or the Senate, which is refunded if the candidate is elected or gains at least 4% of the first preference vote. Between 10 and 27 days must be allowed after the issue of writs before the close of nominations.

The 2023 Monsilvan senate election was held as part of the federal election on Sunday 18 June 2023 to elect members of the Senate for the 43rd Parliament of Monsilva. This is the first senate election using the new closed list proportional representation method, with each state having between 2 and 17 senators designated to them. This replaces the first-past-the-post district method used in previous elections. In similar fashion to the results for the Legislative Assembly, the Freedom and Democracy Party took control over the senate from the Reformed National Party. However, the FDP did not gain a majority in the senate, winning 33 of the total 75 seats with a majority being 38 or more.
Due to significant changes to the electoral process thanks to the Electoral Reform Act passed earlier in the year, although seat changes were minor, senate representation changed significantly in many areas of the country. For example, the Liberal Party lost its representation in Bazhong to the RNP; the FDP representation in Wuzhong and Weishi increased noticeably; and the Liberal Party gained several more senators in Luhai and Meixian.
