Lin Yao-tang (Monsilvan: 林曜汤; born 12 June 1965) is a Monsilvan politician who has served as prime minister of Monsilva since 2023. Lin has also served as leader of the Freedom and Democracy Party since 2019. Before he was elected as prime minister in the 2023 federal election, he served as the leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of Monsilva. Lin is the first Monsilvan politician to win a second election after losing their first after Mao Yanlin won the 1918 general election. Lin has been a member of the Legislative Assembly since 2004, although he changed seats in 2012 from Shuanglong to Waiping South. Previous ministerial positions held by Lin include the Secretary of State for Defense and Shadow Secretary of State for the Treasury.
Lin was born in the city of Wodai in 1965, just two years after Shao Yaoting initiated martial law in the Kingdom of Monsilva. Lin was educated in Wodai throughout his childhood and attended the University of Wodai after he turned 18, studying for a masters degree in international relations. After finishing his studies at university, Lin moved to Amking and in 1988, at the age of 23, he joined the Liberal Party. Lin had trouble climbing the ranks in the party, as he would often reach disagreements over the party's foreign policies, despite agreeing with them on economic policy. In 1997, Lin left the Liberal Party and became a member of the Freedom and Democracy Party.
In 2001, Lin returned to Wodai, planning to win a seat in the Legislative Assembly at the 2004 federal election. Lin did end up winning a seat for the county of Shuanglong in west Wodai. He retained this seat until the 2012 federal election, where he was recommended to move to the Waiping South constituency as a replacement for Suen Shi-huang, who was the departing prime minister and previous holder of the seat, as it is considered a safe FDP seat. During the cabinet development for Lee Su, the next prime minister, Lin was appointed as Secretary of State for Defense. After Lee lost the 2016 election, Lin was appointed as Shadow Secretary of State for the Treasury under Lin Qingge. In 2019, Lin Qingge resigned, and Lin Yao-tang won the leadership election placing him as leader of the FDP. In the 2023 federal election, Lin was successful in winning the most seats in the Legislative Assembly and was appointed as prime minister of Monsilva by the president on the 20 June 2023.
