The 2020 Monsilvan senate election was held on Saturday 22 August 2020 to elect members of the Senate for the 42nd Parliament of Monsilva. The incumbent RNP government lead by Leader of the Senate Liao Ping sought to win a second consecutive term, and was successful. Although it only lost one seat in the Legislative Assembly, it lost 6 seats in the Senate. All 75 seats in the Senate were up for election as no by-elections took place in the last year. It took place at the same time as the 2020 federal election.
The Reformed National Party lost its majority, but remained the largest party in the house. Although the RNP had retained control of the Legislative Assembly, a loss of the Senate was still a big blow for the party and prime minister Xu Yan. The only change to the seat composition since the 2016 senate election was the return of Tangbu County in Wuzhong to FDP, after changing to RNP in the 2016 election. Although Lin Yao-tang, Leader of the FDP, and Ju Lin, Shadow Leader of the Senate, were unable to win this election, both them and their party remained hopeful to win the next election, especially after the RNP's big loss in senate seats.
The RNP won the most seats, but did not have the popular vote, with the FDP having 3.2 percentage points more of the popular vote than the RNP. This was a huge boost for the FDP campaign against the incumbent government. The Liberal Party saw the largest increase in seats, with 4 gained seats, all taken from former RNP seats.
This senate election marked the last individual senate election, as starting from May 2023, all senate elections will become a part of federal elections, as they have been taking place on the same day since 1984.
