The 2000 Monsilvan senate election was held on Saturday 12 August 2000 to elect members of the Senate for the 37th Parliament of Monsilva. The election was important for all three parties in the senate after the scandal with Liberal Party leader and acting Prime Minister Kong Tsai earlier in the year which had lead to Suen Shi-huang returning to the role of prime minister and having to threaten the Liberal Party with ending the coalition if they didn't remove Kong as leader of the party. Both the FDP and Liberal Party feared that they may lose many seats while the RNP was hopeful that it could make a comeback. However the results of the election showed that the public were much kinder to the situation than many politicians had predicted, with surveys showing that the resignation of Kong Tsai from the Legislative Assembly was sufficient action for many people who had criticized his actions as acting Prime Minister.
The FDP remained at 30 seats, while the RNP lost 1 seat to the Liberal Party. The RNP's loss of seats despite being the only party in the senate not involved in the scandal is often correlated with the arrival of the controversial Ning Liao as leader of the party in 1997. All 65 seats in the senate were up for election, and as tradition, the election took place at the same time as the 2000 federal election.
