The 1992 Monsilvan federal election was held on Saturday 08 August 1992 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Monsilva for the 35th Parliament of Monsilva. The election saw a loss of 20 seats for the Reformed National Party, likely due to not only the departure of Hsu Xue-zhou as Leader of the RNP and as Prime minister since he reached the three-term limit for the office, but also his successor, Qi Hu's, mediocre reputation. This election was the last one before the re-organization of the county constituencies in 1996 which increased the number of seats in the Assembly from 203 to 221. All 203 seats in the Legislative Assembly were up for election. In the separate 1992 senate election, which took place at the same time, as is tradition, all 60 seats were up for election as well.

Despite the RNP's loss of 20 seats, they maintained a 7 seat majority. The Freedom and Democracy Party and Liberal Party both saw an increase of 9 seats for each party, giving both parties the highest number of seats for each since both parties were established and since the establishment of the republic in 1978. Meanwhile, the Monsilvan Labor Party saw a noticeable increase in votes, but still failed to win a seat, which caused the leader, Wu He, to start the dissolution process for the party. The Labor Party was removed from the electoral register in 1995.

Voter registration

Enrollment of eligible voters is compulsory. Voters must notify the Monsilvan Electoral Commission within 8 weeks of a change of address or after turning 18. The electoral rolls are closed for new enrollments or update of details about a week after the dissolution of the assembly. Enrollment is optional for 16- or 17-year-olds, but they cannot vote in federal or senate elections until they turn 18, and persons who have applied for Monsilvan citizenship may also apply for provisional enrollment which takes effect on the granting of citizenship. A total of 30,020,395 people were enrolled to vote in the election, which meant that 82.3% of all eligible Monsilvans were enrolled on the electoral roll.

Election date

Dissolution of parliament

The election was called by Hsu Xue-zhou on 28 June 1992, when he visited the President advising the latter to dissolve the Parliament, including the Legislative Assembly, while the Leader of the Senate was approved by the senate to dissolve the senate at the same time (as is usual procedure). As Hsu had reached his term limit, after an RNP leadership election, Qi Hu, the Deputy Prime Minister was appointed as leader of the RNP and candidate in the election. The Parliament was then dissolved the next morning, as is procedure after 4 years of a parliament's tenure.
