Gnaeus I, called the Fat (665 - August 19, 710) was the king of Illyricum from 696 to 710. Gnaeus was the son of Lucius I, king from 689 to 696 and took the throne on his death. As king, Gnaeus began a variety of elaborate public works, including constructing the Palace of the Fish, and helped stabilize the entire kingdom by creating the Lex Gnaea, a law code which organized the Illyrian nobility. Following his death from sickness in 710, Gnaeus was succeeded by his son-in-law Marcellus I through marriage to his daughter Maria the Plain.
