Gaius I (670 - August 19, 730) was the king of Illyricum from 716 to 730. In 716, Patriarch of Illyricum Johannus Gregorianus chose Gaius as the successor to Marcellus I, who had abdicated on order of Gregorianus. During his fourteen year reign, Gaius launched the Andrafolian War against the Kingdom of Andrafoliam, in which he reconquered Perfulia in 728. Gaius fell ill and died in 730 and was succeeded by his son Publius II.
