Dionysyos I, called the Bad (born Marius; 710 - May 23, 751), was the king of Illyricum from 747 to 751. Dionysyos was the son of Publius II, king from 730 to 747. As king, Dionysyos raised taxes to fund large architectural projects as well as invasions of the Kingdom of Ferunia and Trurnia, which led to widespread revolts amongst the nobility and peasantry throughout his reign. After an accused affair with his own mother Rafaelia in 751, Dionysyos was excommunicated by Patriarch of Illyricum Marcus Chlorus and later was publicly executed along with his daughter Dionysia the Innocent.
