The Battle of Marantus River (Romanyan Iberic: Proelium Fluminis Maranti) was the final battle in the Romanyan conquest of Illyricum that occurred on the Marantus River, near Tudino in April 197 BC. Romanyan Consul Gaius Sejanus Brutellus had just recently defeated King Gnaeus III and his force in August 198, at the Battle of Arens, which allowed the VIII Legion to capture Julianerea. Romanyan forces then advanced north, capturing Armorolaus before they were met by Gnaeus III with an even larger Illyrian force at the Marantus River on the base of the Illyric Peninsula. Due to superior training and strategy, as at Arens, Romanyan forces routed the Illyrians, killing King Gnaeus and effectively destroying the Kingdom of Illyricum.
