The 2001 Gjorkan Presidential Election was an election held in Gjorka to determine the next President of Gjorka. Joe Wallace's victory is considered one of the greatest upsets in Gjorkan political history. As well this was only the second presidential election in Gjorkan history where Gjorka United finished third or worse, the other being the 1982 election where the party did not run a candidate. Finally, this is the first election to feature the Pro-Gjorkan Initiative, a party created by President Wilson Aldrich due to disagreements with Gjorka United.
The Constitution of Gjorka espouses the President of Gjorka is elected to a five-year term in a popular vote election. Whoever garners the most votes in the election, shall be the next President of Gjorka. By law, the election is to be held June 30 every five years to give due process for a transition of power between administrations. As well, Presidents are allowed a maximum of two five year terms. Since President Wilson Aldrich had been elected to two terms, he was ineligible to run.
