The party was created in 2018 after the Legislative Assembly of Monsilva passed the RSSI Act 2018 which, as well as creating the party, declared 10 extra seats will be added to the Legislative Assembly which will be permanently occupied by the party. These extra seats to do not represent a constituency and the members who sit in them are not able to vote on any legislations, and are only able to join debates and discussions relating to Shaoyu Island. The seats were physically introduced to the assembly in 2020, after the 2020 federal election and will appear in polling and election results from the 2023 federal election.

The party is in an association agreement with the Freedom and Democracy Party (FDP) whereby the FDP will not run any candidates in the state of Shaoyu for any elections as long as the SLP maintains the party's core ideals. The two parties have had close relations since the SLP's founding thanks to FDP leader Lin Yao-tang strongly advocating for the end of Zloveshchiyan administration of Shaoyu.

The party consists of 10 members, who are designated after every federal election proportional to each party in the assembly. The members are usually naturalized or verifiable descendants of Shaoyunese (Akvatikan) people, however if these people cannot be found to fill all 10 members, any politician who is openly for the party's goals will be appointed instead. Ngáhhah Yilàhm, a native Shaoyunese person who left the island to Monsilva in the 1990s, is the current Chairperson of the party. The Chairperson does not sit in the Legislative Assembly. Meanwhile Feinóh Fujimìhng is another native Shaoyunese person who is the Designated Premier of Shaoyu. The Designated Premier is the primary representative chosen by the leading party in the Legislative Assembly as of the latest election. The Designated Premier, should Shaoyu ever be administered by Monsilva, automatically becomes Premier of the Island until a state election is possible.

The Shaoyu Liberation Party (Monsilvan: 哨域解放党; pinyin: Shàoyù Jiěfàngdǎng; Shaoyunese: 𖩓𖩩𖩈𖩔𖩅 𖩅𖩞𖩈𖩂𖩤𖩂), abbreviated as the SLP or SJD, is a political party and the largest single-state party in the Monsilvan Republic.

The SLP is the largest in the Shaoyu State Parliament and is therefore in government. As well as leading the state parliament, the SLP also has 34 seats in the Monsilvan Legislative Assembly and 5 seats in the Senate.

History

The party was founded in 2018 after the passing of the RSSI Act 2018 which allowed 56 representative seats in the Legislative Assembly for Shaoyunese people living in Monsilva to represent the interests of themselves and the island of Shaoyu. These seats were unelected, but representatives could not vote in any legislations and could only participate in discussions relating to Shaoyu. Their abilities were rarely used under the administration of Xu Yan, but after the 2023 Monsilvan federal election which saw the beginning of Lin Yao-tang's premiership, the representatives saw much more action in the parliament.

In July 2023, the SLP was requested to designate a member to become the Designate Premier of Shaoyu. This role would be fulfilled by Feinuo Ziming who would serve as the leader of Shaoyu should the island be taken over by Monsilva. Although at the time it was agreed this would be in the distant future, after the discovery of the Akvatika Island genocide in August, it came much sooner. Throughout September 2023, the OU initiated a military intervention on the island of Shaoyu in order to remove the Zloveshchiyan administration. It was successful, and lead to the creation of the OU mandate for Shaoyu which saw Feinuo as one of the high commissioners.

In January 2024, the mandate was dissolved and Feinuo became the Premier of Shaoyu. Her term was validated on 29 January 2024 after a state election which saw her party win the most seats in the State Parliament.

Policy

Since 2024, the Shaoyu Liberation Party has been obligated to follow the fundamental policies of the Freedom and Democracy Party. These policies include decreasing wealth inequality and improving trade agreements and government funded projects. The party is also supportive of socially progressive policies which act against discrimination and support workers' rights. However, the party does differ in some aspects to its associated party. Unlike the FDP, the SLP's members lean towards being a member of military alliances such as ACES much more. The party also claims to be more economically liberal than the FDP.
