Romanyan Vaktria was a province annexed by the Romanyan Empire in 130 CE after conquering the Kingdom of Vaktia. The majority of the province was populated by ethnic Vaktrians who practiced Astrianism. Christianity reached Vaktria around the late 3rd century. It remained under the Romanyan rule until 325, when the Vaktrian revolt in the north led to the fracturing of the province into the Septarban Kingdom and the Romanyan province of Dastivia.
History
Romanyan invasion
The Havusmanid dynasty was ruling the Kingdom of Vakria since 225 BCE. When Ultvar Chernastum VI died, the Kingdom began to lose some of its southern lands to revolts. Then the Romanyan Empire invaded in 85 CE. Havusmanor IV, the last Ultvar, refused to surrender and led the defense against the empire. The Romanyan-Vaktrian War lasted until 130 CE, with the Romanyan military conquering all the territory held by the Kingdom of Vaktria. Vaktria was incorporated as an imperial province of Romanya.
Spread of Christianity
Before Romanyan rule, Vaktrians practiced Astrianism. Christianity reached Vaktria in the late 3rd century. Vaktrian Christian communities mostly sprouted in south Vaktria and used the Vaktrian language and alphabet in liturgy. Local conflicts between Astrian and Christian communities occured. Christianity would only firmly establish itself in Dastivia in the late 4th century.
Split
In 308, Astrian Vaktrian peasants revolted against Romanyan rule. They were mainly discontent because of persecution of Astrianism, including the destruction of fire temples. Septarbus, a northern Vaktrian general, emerged as a leader of the revolt. Most of Vaktria north of the Maplas river rallied in support of Septarbus. At the time, the Romanyan Empire was also fighting wars to the north east and south. With its forces divided, the Romanyan Empire was only able to maintain control over the southern third of the province. Septarbus organized the north into a new kingdom with the aesthetic of restoring the Kingdom of Vaktria while the south was redesignated into Dastivia.
Language
Vaktrian remained the common language of the natives, along with the Vaktrian alphabet. Romanyan became increasingly infuential in the development of the Vaktrian language families, particularly the Dastivian dialects. The Iberic script of the Romanyans was not commonly adopted in Dastivia until the 6th century, and the rest of Vaktria did not adopt it until the 10th century.
