The historical region of Alaia (Vaktrian: Alaıa, Aramaic: ܐܠܝܐ) is an area located west of the Caelean Sea in Eastern Ecros. It is part of modern-day Terranihil and Pavulturilor. The name Alaia is likely a Romanyanization of the Assorian word for deer or stag. The term is an exonym, as the natives of Alaia did not refer to themselves as such until the Romanyan Empire conquered anexed Alaia as a province.
Throughout history, the region has been controlled by many different peoples and nations, including Sumeria, Akadia, the Ayreoshubic Empire, Assoria, Babylonia, ancient Arameans, the Tundren Empire, the Romanyan Empire, Kagoria, the Mutadinun Caliphate, the Zuhraid Caliphate, the Emirate of Mestaga, the Aramea, and Terranihil.
Alaia is currently populated by Astrian Vaktrians, Pytabian Christian Arameans, and Aramaic-speaking Jews.
