Severus I of Illyricum (August 15, 1528 - April 4, 1607) was King of Illyricum from 1561 to 1607. Severus I took power following the Illyrian War of Succession against Queen Julia II from 1555 to 1561. During his reign, Severus I reestablished Illyrian control throughout the nation following a series of revolts including a 1567 attempt to place Princess Juliana, the younger sister of Julia II, on the throne. Severus I also launched the Severan Inquisition which killed and imprisoned hundreds of Illyrian Catholic leaders between 1570 and 1600.
