The Vice President of Gjorka (Gjorkan: Leas-Uachtarán na Gjorkan) is the second-highest ranking member of the Gjorkan government and first in line of Presidential succession. The Vice President serves to advise the president and take over duties of the presidency in the event of death or impairment.
The Vice President holds office for a 5 year term and unlike the President is renewable more than once. The Vice President is elected directly by the people of Gjorka via a direct popular vote on a joint ballot with the President. The Vice Presidency was created in 1972 following the Black Revolution in order to prevent another presidential dictatorship and provide a clear line of succession .
