Mal'l Rey (pronounced: /ˈmɑːl.reɪi/ or /ˈmal.[a]lˈrej/), a Creeperian phrase meaning "to wrong the king" or "to wrong the monarchy," is criticism or an offense against a reigning sovereign.

Several monarchies have or have had laws that prohibited mal'l rey actions or speech and hand down varying punishments that vary from fines to imprisonment to death. Overtime, mal'l rey laws have been repealed or reduced in severity as freedom of speech and expression improve in many nations.

Current laws

  •  CreeperopolisMal'l rey are currently enforced in Creeperopolis with the penalty being death. For more information, see Mal'l Rey laws in Creeperopolis.
  •  El SalvadorMal'l rey are currently enforced in El Salvador with the penalty being 30 years imprisonment, however, protests have demanded the revocation of such laws.
  • SalisfordMal'l rey are currently enforced in Salisford with a penalty of, at minimum 200 liras, to up to millions of liras in fines with the largest recent fine being 7.2 million liras for slandering the Queen Consort.
  • State of the ChurchMal'l rey are currently enforced in the State of the Church with the penalty being either life imprisonment or death.
  • XusmaMal'l rey are currently enforced in Xusma as a part of the Voloshin Imperial Code (article III, section II). The penalty is five years imprisonment with a 5,000 rur fine with a second offense being life imprisonment. Until 1865, the penalty was execution until the Parliament reduced the penalty to its current form.

Former laws

In current monarchies

  • GagiumMal'l rey laws were in effect and enforced from 1835 until 1867 when such laws were abolished via a constitutional amendment. The penalty before abolition ranged from a variable amount of fines to up to ten years imprisonment.
  •  QuebecshireMal'l rey laws were in effect and enforced until 27 March 1908 when they were abolished during the Grandmastership of Yves-François Bourassa. The penalty was a fine of a variable amount.
  • ReiaMal'l rey laws were in effect and enforced until they were abolished in 1843. The punishment was up to two years imprisonment or fines of variable amounts.
  • San Carlos Islands – Despite sharing the same monarch as Xusma, the San Carlos Islands has never had any mal'l rey laws, however, the Xussman mal'l rey laws were in effect and enforced when the islands were a Xussman colony until its independence in 1941.

In abolished monarchies

  • Arcadia – Until the monarchy was abolished in 1700, mal'l rey laws were enforced with penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment to death.
  • Eminople – Until the monarchy was abolished in 1523, mal'l rey laws were enforced with a penalty of life imprisonment.
  • GjorkaMal'l rey laws were poorly enforced with a punishment of death until they were abolished in 1772.
  •  Greater Sacramento – No mal'l rey laws were ever de jure, however, there were de facto mal'l rey laws in the various Sacramatian kingdoms before the Blue Flag Revolution with penalties varying from small fines to death.
  • Groffenord – Until the monarchy was abolished on 15 November 1910, mal'l rey laws were enforced with a penalty of trial by combat.
  • Karimun – Until the monarchy was abolished in 1945, mal'l rey laws were enforced with a penalty of five years imprisonment.
  • Morova – Until the monarchy was abolished in 1920, mal'l rey laws were enforced with the punishment being death.
