Federico Rodolfo Rivas y Velázquez (11 January 1907 – 24 August 1972) was a Creeperian professional footballer and football manager, known for being one of the most successful players and managers in Creeperian and world football history.

Rivas Velázquez played his professional career for CF San Salvador and CF Adolfosburg, during which he won five Copa Creeperiano titles, four of which were consecutive between 1927 and 1930 with the fifth in 1932. He also played for the Creeperopolis national team, with which he competed at two Terraconservan Cups, winning one, one Copa Sur, which he won, and two Hispanic Cups, winning both.

He managed the Creeperopolis national team to second place in the 1952 Terraconservan Cup, after which he resigned to assume the position of manager of San Salvador in 1953. From 1953 until 1961, he led San Salvador to four Copa Creeperiano finals appearances, winning three of them. After 1961, Rivas Velázquez departed San Salvador to manage Adolfosburg, and from 1962 until his retirement in 1968, he led the club to seven consecutive Copa Creeperiano victories. He is the only manager in Liga Imperial history to win nine consecutive titles (1960–1961 with San Salvador, 1962–1968 with Adolfosburg).

Rivas Velázquez is considered to be one of the most important players in the history of the Creeperopolis national team, despite his professional career only spanning six years, and one of the most important managers in the history of the Liga Imperial.

Early life

Federico Rodolfo Rivas y Velázquez was born on 11 January 1907 in Teguracoa, Adolfosburg, Creeperopolis. His father was Guillermo Alexander Rivas y Herrera and his mother was María Guadeloupe Velázquez y Rodríguez de Rivas. He was youngest of four children, with his older siblings being Francisco, Carmen, and Esmeralda. At a young age, Rivas Velázquez became passionate about the sport of football, with his favorite club being CF Adolfosburg.

At the age of seventeen, he enrolled at the San Alfonso University to study law, but he also played on the university's football team. In his twenty five caps from 1924 to 1926, he accumulated twenty-four goals as a forward. His achievements in the sport, including winning the Creeperian National College Football Association in 1924 and 1926, garnered him the attention of some of Creeperopolis' professional football clubs. He was approached by CF San Salvador to play for their squad in the 1926 season, however, he wanted to play for Adolfosburg, the club he had loved during his childhood. He made a request to Adolfosburg to play for their squad, but when he was denied, he accepted San Salvador's one-year offer to play for their squad, dropping out of San Alfonso University and abandoning his studies.

Club career

Start at San Salvador

He began his professional football career at the age of nineteen. In his one year at the club, he played all seventeen matches of the season, scoring fourteen goals. The club reached the 1926 Copa Creeperiano but lost to CF La'Libertad by a score of 1–2. Rivas Velázquez scored San Salvador's lone goal of the match. After his year with the club was finished, the club offered him a five year extension, but by then Adolfosburg had seen the potential that Rivas Velázquez had. The club offered Rivas Velázquez a three year extension worth more than the one offered by San Salvador, and he accepted Adolfosburg's offer.

Three consecutive titles at Adolfosburg

Rivas Velázquez's first match with Adolfosburg of the 1927 season was against San Salvador, and he defeated his former team by a score of 3–0, scoring all of Adolfosburg's goals in his first ever hat-trick.
