Club de Fútbol Imperial de Adolfosburg (Creeperian: Ծլփբ դե Ֆղտբոլ Իմպերիալ դե Ադոլֆոսբփրգ;[note 1]Jackian: Adolfosburg Imperial Football Club), commonly referred to as CF Adolfosburg or Imperial Adolfosburg, is a Creeperian professional football club based in Adolfosburg.
In 2022, the club was the most valuable sports team in the world, being valued at ₵3.8 billion credits,[note 2] and is considered to be one of the most popular and widely supported football clubs. Adolfosburg is one of only four teams to have never been relegated from the Liga Imperial, with the other three being San Salvador, Salvador, San Romero. Additionally, the club has many notably rivalries with other Creeperian clubs, most notably the Rivalidad Antiguo with San Salvador, the Rivalidad Nuevo with Salvador, and the Concurso del Mar with La'Libertad.
Adolfosburg began dominating the domestic Creeperian football league during its first years of existence from the mid-1900s to the early-1930s, claiming 13 league titles and 11 Copa Creeperiano titles. After a 20-year period of inactivity due to the Creeperian Civil War, Adolfosburg returned to playing league football in 1952, winning the league title and making a Copa Creeperiano appearance that season. Between the span of 1958 and 1969, in what is known as El Imperio, Adolfosburg won 8 league titles and 7 Copa Creeperiano titles, being considered one of the strongest dynasties in club football history. After the end of El Imperio, Adolfosburg reached three more Copa Creeperiano finals in the late-1970s, winning two of them, and won an additional 2 league titles.
From 1979 to 2002, however, Adolfosburg failed to reach a single Copa Creeperiano final and only won 4 league titles, in a 23-year period known as La'Tristesa. The drought was ended when the club claimed the 2003 Copa Creeperiano title and proceeded to win 4 league titles between 2003 and 2011. Adolfosburg lost 3 consecutive Copa Creeperiano finals from 2013 to 2015, and lost 4 consecutive in between two Copa Creeperiano titles from 2018 to 2021. With their victory over San Pedro in the 2022 final, Adolfosburg amassed a record total 23 Copa Creeperiano titles, 3 more than second-place San Salvador's total.
The decree was received by the governments of both cities, which began searching for individuals talented enough to play for both teams and operate the teams. On 6 March 1878, Julián Palacios Ortega, a lawyer and business man who was the brother of Andrés Palacios Ortega, the mayor of Adolfosburg, announced the establishment of the Adolfosburg Football Club and recruited its first two players: José Berraondo Prast and Federico Revuelto Yarza, two students at the San Alfonso University who played for the university's football program. The club's formation preceded the formation of the San Salvador Football Club by just three days, making Adolfosburg the oldest professional football club in Creeperopolis.
From March through April 1878, Palacios Ortega recruited fourteen players from the San Alfonso University and the University of Teguracoa to the Adolfosburg Football Club, more commonly known as CF Adolfosburg. The improvised club was financed by the Palacios Ortega brothers, with Andrés even misappropriating public funds from the city to finance the club, as the club was not city property but in Julián's personal ownership. Miguel Espinoza Contreras, the director of the San Alfonso University's football program, was named as Adolfosburg's manager for the match against San Salvador, and he oversaw the club's training and practice sessions.
On 14 June 1878, Adolfosburg and San Salvador met in San Salvador at the Campo de Alfonso and played Creeperopolis' first ever professional football match. The Emperor, the captain generals of San Salvador and Adolfosburg, and other politicians and military officers were in attendance of the match, along with an estimated 15,000 civilian spectators. During the match, Revuelto Yarza scored a hat-trick for Adolfosburg, while Óscar Quijano Ureña scored San Salvador's lone goal. The match ended in a 3–1 victory for Adolfosburg, and as a reward, Adolfo III bestowed the title of "Imperial" upon Adolfosburg, making the club's official name the Adolfosburg Imperial Football Club. To this day, Adolfosburg remains the only club to ever be bestowed the title of "Imperial" in Creeperian football history.
