Polesitter Fabrizju Zolla was able to retain the lead through the first few laps followed closely behind by Vitale Scutari. Frenċ Bakere, who qualified last in the Grand Prix, reported engine issues by the end of the first lap and was forced to retire by lap three. Just before the DRS activation on lap three, Scutari who was less then a half a second behind Zolla went off the track at turn three, allowing Zolla to escape his opponent's DRS where he remained for most of the first half of the race.
