The First Republic of Illyricum was a historical period of Illyricum from March 5, 1799 - May 9, 1819 during which it was a constitutional federal republic for the first time in its history. The Republic was established following the Illyric Revolution and the end of Montcrabin control of Illyricum through the Viceroyalty of Ilírica. Lucio Lento won the 1799 presidential election and would serve until 1805, leading Illyrian forces in Queen Cecilia's War and helping to reestablish Illyrian power in the region against the neighboring Terranilian Empire, Republic of Pensulia, and the Second Republic of Uralis. Following Lento's presidency, the nation struggled with debt and economic crises as well as internal governmental corruption and instability. President Marius Connus took over following the 1814 presidential election and managed to successfully repair the economy, earning him reelection in 1817. However a growing opposition faction led by Romulonysyos Anyastynaxos took power on May 9, 1819, executing Connus and establishing the Second Republic of Illyricum.
