Kuohai Shipbuilding Corporation (Monsilvan: 阔海造船株式会社; pinyin: Kuòhǎi Zàochuán Zhūshì Huìshè) is the largest shipbuilding company in Monsilva. The company was formed on 20 September 1934 as the Imperial Shipbuilding Company. It was renamed to its current name in 1979 after the abolition of the monarchy in Monsilva the previous year. The company joined with Wantao Industries in 1985 to create a mutual parent company as a strategic business alliance to prevent either company from facing bankruptcy during the anti-military period in Monsilva during the late 1970s and 1980s. The parent company, known as Dayu Group, has since gone on to produce two more independent subsidiaries from Wantao and Kuohai.

History

Kuohai Shipbuilding Corporation was founded on 20 September 1934 as "Imperial Shipbuilding Company". It was founded by the Department of Defense under Prime Minister Heng Lei. The company was intended to be the main producer of ships and naval equipment for the Monsilvan Royal Navy. After the 1978 Monsilvan protests against the ultra-nationalist government established in Monsilva in 1963, which lead to the abolition of the monarchy, the company renamed itself to Kuohai Shipbuilding Corporation. The name, "kuohai" (闊海), means "open ocean".

In May 1985, along with Wantao Industries, a strategical parent company was formed for the two shipbuilders known as Dayu Group. It has served as the parent company for both corporations since then, as well as establishing its own new subsidiaries, Dayu Electronics and Dayu Motors. Since then, Kuohai has managed to retain its status as the largest shipbuilding company in Monsilva, with Soong Heavy Industries being the company's main competitor.
