Soong Heavy Industries Ltd. (SHI) (Monsilvan: 宋重工业株式会社; pinyin: Sòng Zhònggōngyè Zhūshì Huìshè) is a Monsilvan public multinational corporation manufacturer of heavy equipment, rolling stock, aerospace and defense equipment and ships, headquarted in Zhangye, Xiaogu, Monsilva. Soong is also active in the production of industrial robotics, gas turbines, pumps, boilers and other industrial products. The company's name originates from its founder, Soong Bojing.

SHI is one of Monsilva's largest companies, and is one of the country's four major manufacturing companies, alongside Fushao, Ltd., Chienkun Rúlla and Dayu Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering. The shipping company, Soong Chichuan, Ltd. is a former subsidiary of Soong Heavy Industries, but is no longer connected to the company since 1978.

History

Soong Bojing, who was born in September 1836, was heavily involved with the maritime industry from a young age. However, he was involved in multiple offshore disasters, which he survived but left him quite severly injured. He accredited his injuries to the failure of Monsilva's shipping industry in modernizing. This lead to the decision to create technological innovations for the Monsilvan shipping indsutry. In 1878, after several years of struggling to find any business in the massive cities of Amking and Luhai, Soong moved to Zhangye where his first order was placed. This is marked as the company's start in the industry.

By the late 1880s, Soong's business was growing rapidly, and he decided to purshase the largest dockyard in Zhangye, which he renamed to Soong Dockyard. The new and improved company went public as Soong Dockyward Co., Ltd. After opening Soong's new dockyard, the company decided to construct new factories which were built between 1890 and 1910. With these new factories, the company began to diversify its products. They began to produce parts for the railroad and airplane industry by the end of the 1910s. During the anti-military period in Monsilva in the 1930s and 40s, Soong's shipbuilding and aerospace industries declined significantly, while their rolling stock industry began to rocket.

During the martial law period in the 1960s and 70s, Soong faced increasing pressure from the authoritarian government and at multiple points, the government attempted to acquire the company. Soong's profits declined significantly during this period. When martial law was ended in 1978 with the establishment of the republic, the new government introduced a new manufacturing agenda which gave Soong a rise in profits and helped restore the company. The company was able to resume all operations and by the mid 1980s, the company returned to being Monsilva's largest shipbuilder.

However, in the 1990s, Soong began to focus less on shipbuilding and make its other products just as important. Despite this, Soong's largest subsidiary is still the Soong Shipbuilding Corporation, however the Soong Railcar Manufacturing Company has since come into close second.
