Wantao Industries (Monsilvan: 万陶工业; pinyin: Wàntáo Gōngyè), formerly known as Dayu Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering or DSME, is a Monsilvan shipbuilding corporation and subsidiary of the Monsilvan conglomerate, Dayu Group. It produces a range of different shipbuilding and defense related products, from warships and passenger watercraft to FPSO platforms and other offshore structures. Many of Wantao's products are used in the Monsilvan Navy.

History

Wantao Industries was founded on 22 March 1971 as "Wantao Industries Shipbuilding and Engineering Company". It produced small container ships and passenger watercraft during its early years, and began constructing larger ships such as oil tankers and natural gas platforms towards the end of the 1970s and into the early 1980s.

On 10 May 1985, along with Kuohai Shipbuilding Corporation, Wantao CEO Tian Xiu founded the Dayu Group as a parent company of both shipbuilding corporations. The group has served as the parent company for both corporations since then, as well as establishing two new subsidiaries, Dayu Electronics and Dayu Motors. In June 1985, "Wantao Industries Shipbuilding and Engineering Co., Ltd" was renamed to "Dayu Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd" or "DSME" for short.

Since 1985, Wantao has been one of the largest providers of equipment and ships for the Monsilvan Navy. In December 1996, the company reverted its name back to "Wantao" but shortened it to just "Wantao Industries Co., Ltd".
