Dayu Group (Monsilvan: 大宇集团; pinyin: Dàyǔ Jítuán), also known simply as Dayu, is a major Monsilvan conglomerate corporation headquartered in the capital, Amking. Dayu focuses in a wide range of industries producing an abundance of different products, such as naval ships, passenger ships, home appliances and commercial vehicles. The company was founded on 10 May 1985, as a joint parent company for Wantao Industries and Kuohai Shipbuilding Corporation which had existed long before the creation of Dayu. In 1993 and 1995 respectively, Dayu also established the Dayu Electronics company and Dayu Motors.

The name "Dayu" (大宇 or Dàyǔ) literally means "great universe" and was thought up by the CEO of Wantao and co-founder of Dayu, Tian Xiu.

History

The Dayu Group was founded in May 1985, after a decision between the CEOs of two large shipbuilding companies, Wantao Industries and Kuohai Shipbuilding, which were facing a large decrease in income, to create a joint parent company in the hopes it would prevent one or both of the companies declaring bankruptcy. The two CEOs, Tian Xiu and Sun Guo, became the two co-founders of Dayu and Tian became its President when it was established on 10 May.

During the late 1980s, soon after the company's establishment, the company saw a rise in income thanks to a new military policy implemented by Monsilvan Prime Minister, Hsu Xue-zhou. This rise in income helped boost the company's establishment and encouraged the eventual foundation of two new companies under Dayu, known as Dayu Electronics and Dayu Motors.

Dayu Electronics was founded in 1993 as a producer of home appliances and other household or retail electronics. Dayu Motors was founded in 1995 as a manufacturer of commercial and luxury vehicles. Dayu Motors is focused almost entirely on the Monsilvan market, with any exported models being restricted to only nearby countries.

Corporations

Dayu Group is the parent company to four major corporations:

  • Wantao Industries, one of the 'founding companies' of the Dayu Group. Wantao produces a range of products in the shipbuilding industry, including but not limited to, container ships, semi-submersibles, surface ships and floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) platforms. The company was briefly called Dayu Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering between 1985 and 1996.
  • Kuohai Shipbuilding Corporation, the largest of Dayu's subsidiaries and another of the 'founding companies' of the Dayu Group. It is the largest producer of naval equipment and ships for the Monsilvan Navy by a wide-margin with Soong Heavy Industries being the company's largest competitor.
  • Dayu Electronics, the first subsidiary founded after the foundation of the Dayu Group. Dayu Electonrics produces home and retail appliances ranging from refrigerators, and ovens to televisions and air-conditioning units.
  • Dayu Motors, the second subsidiary founded after the foundation of the Dayu Group. Dayu Motors is a manufacturer of commercial and luxury vehicles. The company produces around fifty percent of its vehicles itself, whilst the other fifty percent are imported models that the company manufacture with permission.

Dayu Engineering and Construction

Dayu Engineering and Construction is a proposed fifth subsidiary of the Dayu Group which would take away the last independent functions of the Dayu Group. Currently, Dayu Group, as well as being the parent company to shipbuilding corporations, vehicle manufacturers and electronics manufacturers, it is also a construction company which has constructed multiple building across Monsilva including two power plants in Weishi.

Dayu E&C would be founded to continue the construction industry of Dayu Group, leaving Dayu Group as an administrative parent company without any independent function. As of April 2023, the proposal is still in discussion.
