The presidency of Dietrich Weber is the policies and administration of Dietrich Weber from September 2073 to September 2077.

Election

Dietrich Weber's platform was grounded in ridding of government corruption, including influences from special interests such as large corporations and even labor unions that abused their government support. He was by-far the strongest on holding government accountable and investigating government corruption. Weber campaigned on breaking up some of the monopolies as well as breaking up some of the labor union conglomerate and giving smaller unions a seat at the governmental negotiating table. On environmental regulations, Weber was fairly moderate in his stance and argued to restore some of the regulations removed by the previous administration. Weber was a strong supporter of low government spending. He argued for miniscule budgets for both the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of International Relations. Weber supported the opt-in policy and keeping taxes low and limited in scope. Dietrich Weber is not a member of the Nanti-faith, which did not resinate well with many Icarisians. Weber was seen as the front runner for most of the primary because of his time as Prime Minister.

Weber led the primary election polls until March timeframe as he waned to Tod McCarthy after the first debate. Following the second debate, Weber was trailing by 3% to McCarthy on average. The primary election took place and Weber won with 38% of the votes, beating McCarthy by 6%.

During the general election, he chose Mike Tucker as his running mate. Tucker was a staunch Traditionalist and a stubborn and aggressive politician. Weber chose Tucker to be his bulldog for his administration, but also to ease tensions within the National Parliament that would've likely been caused by Tucker against Weber's agenda. Tucker was known to fight large scale change, the types of changes Wbeer knew needed to happen within the bureaucracy especially.

Weber's calm and collected demeanor and his straight forward approach won him success against the more political aggressive, Lucinda Kielska, the Libertist Party's nomination.

Administration and cabinet selection

Weber first chose Travis Kessel as his Chief of Staff and transition manager. With much of the previous administration in shambles, the Prime Minister was de facto leading the government. Kessel resigned as Solicitor General as he refused to defend the government's actions in the courts due to the corruption that was occurring. Weber needed Kessel's administrative knowledge in various government ministries to help realign and reconfigure the teams to rid corruption.

Weber chose Jenna Goodwin as his Executive Secretary of Public Relations.

Mitchell Buchanan was chosen as Minister of Defense due to his experience in government. Within the MoD, Ike Whitmer, Sawyer Mills, and Sol Dubinsky specifically were removed due to poor performance.

Weber chose primary opponent Diego Hidalgo to be on his cabinet team as Minister of International Relations. Hidalgo was a career politician and civil servant, having served as an ambassador to Hezruit and Nguessu, as well as taking an interest in international relations while serving as a State Minister and State Delegate. Within the MoIR, Howie Pembrook was notably fired from his role for poor performance/suspicion of corruption.

Weber and McCarthy were so close in the polls, Weber made an early announcement McCarthy would have a place in his administration. McCarthy's campaign was also focused on anti-corruption but also on worker protections. Within the MoJO, Ray Nunn was removed from his role as Director of the BILE.

Chairman of the Icarisian Federal Bank Viktor Zakharov was chosen as the Director of the RAMP. Within the RAMP, Chas Sutherland was removed from his role due to corruption.

For Minister of Infrastructure, Weber chose political moderate Max Schuster.

For Minister of Medical and Health Services, Weber chose Darius Kay. Kay was a populist and grassroots politician, often debated intelligently and respectfully, and would concede to the other side if he was bested as a Delegate. He, in his one term co-authored or authored more bills than any other Delegate during that session. He was notably the most non-partisan and worked with many other delegates no matter their party to pass legislation. He whipped votes in favor of his bills quite well with his persuasion skills. Weber did receive backlash on his choice of Kay due to Kay's conscientious objection to the compulsory military service

Prime Minister selection

Forsyth was selected by President Weber under emergency powers for special selection. Weber claimed he needed a Prime Minister strong enough to clean up corruption led by President Papillion and selected Forsyth for his knowledge on the Icarisian justice system and seemingly straight and narrow career and personality. Forsyth's time at the Ministry of Judicial Oversight earned him a reputation as a strict rule follower and being very particular about structure, discipline and ethical decision making. This was very in line with Weber's approach to the Presidency.

Internal 2077 Presidential battles

The cabinet and administration of Dietrich Weber was an interesting one. Weber made it fairly clear he was only going to serve one term. This led to internal competition between various individuals within the cabinet to vye for Weber's eventual endorsement.

Neil Forsyth, Mike Tucker, Raúl Buenaventura, Tod McCarthy, and Viktor Zakharov all had prospects to run and gain Weber's endorsement. Weber recognized the infighting and specifically ruled out endorsing Mike Tucker for President. Eventually he made the decision not to endorse any of them. Tod McCarthy was wrapped up in scandal and never officially announced his candidacy. He was arrested and convicted in 2078.
