Buenaventura was overwhelmingly elected as Speaker due to his time in the Ministry of Judicial Oversight and the weaknesses of his opponents.
Delegacy
2077 Presidential election
Buenaventura was one of several candidates in the Traditionalist Party and Weber administration vying for his endorsement in the 2076 presidential election. Many saw his campaign as fairly weak, relying too much on his expertise as a politician. The public believed he has little backbone and many found him "annoying". His rivalry with Prime Minister Forsyth harmed not only his Speakership but his presidential campaign as well.
Political views
Raúl Buenaventura saw himself as the ideal Traditionalist. He believed heavily in the social market economy and businesses doing what was ultimately good for the public. He believed in high public spending and taxation to pay for social programs but he also held his traditional values and believes highly. Buenaventura was seen as a more extreme Traditionalist, hard to work with and untrustworthy. He often played partisan politics over consensus, but he was politically savvy and persuasive. He was also highly intelligent in the law and lawmaking, making him a powerful ally on any legislation.
