Channel 4 (CreeperianCreeperian: Ծանալ 4; Creeperian – Iberic: Canal 4)[note 1] is a Creeperian television channel which is operated by the ANF Broadcasting Corporation (ANFCR) and is owned by the National Football Association (ANF), the governing body of professional association football in Creeperopolis.

Channel 4 primarily broadcasts football matches of the Liga Imperial. In addition to the league's matches, it also broadcasts league news, talk shows, analysis programming, and football-related documentaries. The channel also broadcasts foreign and international football matches. Although it primarily specializes in broadcasting football-related content, the channel sometimes rarely broadcasts other sporting events such as basketball, beach football, boxing, and international auto racing.

Channel 4 is one of Creeperopolis' "Primary Channels", the 36 television channels which are offered by every television provider in the country. As such, the channel is a free-to-air television channel, where viewers are not required to directly pay to view it, and it is available in 100 percent of households with television service. The channel does offer a premium subscription service which offers increased streaming quality, the ability to view its programs on mobile devices through Canal 4 a la'Mano, and the ability to view "historical and classic club and national matches" through Canal 4 Antiguo.

The channel's operational headquarters is located in San Salvador and José Revelo Gutiérrez is its operations director. It has broadcasting centers in the capital cities of every department, but it also has multiple broadcasting centers in larger departments by land area and by population. Channel 4 has broadcasting agreements with the governments of El Salvador and the State of the Church which allows it to broadcast in those countries. Channel 4 has two sister channels, Channel 29 and Channel 30, which specialize in broadcasting matches and content related to the ANF's Segunda División and Tercera División, respectively.

According to statistics from the ANF Broadcasting Corporation published in 2022, the channel's average viewership during Saturday and Sunday night football matches can reach around 35 to 40 million live viewers, while it can peak as high as 160 million live viewers. According to a poll conducted by the Antonio José Sáenz y Heredia University (UAJSH) in October 2021, the channel is considered to be the most popular television channel in Creeperopolis, with 42.3 percent of respondents stating that it is their favorite channel.

History

As television began to rise in popularity in Creeperopolis in the 1960s, the Creeperian government sought to maintain control on what was being broadcast as to not disseminate anti-government information, especially amidst the then-ongoing Rubicon War against Salisford. In 1964, the Creeperian government announced that beginning in January 1965, all television channels in Creeperopolis would be directly overseen and operated by the Bureau of Information, a bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In September 1964, the National Football Association (ANF), the governing body of professional association football in Creeperopolis, approached the Bureau of Information to have exclusive rights to operate its own television channel dedicated solely to broadcasting its football matches, as the bureau originally planned to have one sports channel which would broadcast all sports within the country. After a period of negotiation, the bureau and the ANF reached an agreement to form an independent channel owned by the ANF and operated by the ANF Broadcasting Corporation (ANFCR), a company jointly owned by the ANF and the Bureau of Information.

The channel was officially founded on 13 November 1964, and it launched two days later on 15 November 1964; its first program ever aired was a match of the Rivalidad Antiguo between CF Adolfosburg and CF San Salvador, which ended in a 2–2 draw. Its first operations director was Adolfo Hernández Juaréz, who was placed in charge of overseeing the channel's operations. Immediately, the channel quickly became one of the most viewed Creeperian television channels, even surpassing Channel 2, the Gaceta Creeperiano's official news channel. The 1965 Copa Creeperiano Final was reportedly the most watched broadcast in Creeperian history percentage wise, as an estimated 98 percent of households with a television watched the match between Adolfosburg and San Salvador, accounting for just under 500,000 households.

Since its launch, Channel 4 has continued to be one of the most watched television channels. In 1990, the ANF Broadcasting Corporation established two new television channels to broadcast matches and programs related to the Segunda División and the Tercera División: Channel 29 and Channel 30, respectively. While neither channel receives as much viewership as Channel 4, they still attract many viewers whose clubs are not in the Liga Imperial. Channel 4 is available through satellite with Claro, TeleNación, and Tigo, and is available through cable with Claro and Tigo.
