Reykani overseas colonies (Reykani:Reykjanes erlendar nýlendur) were the colonies that Reykanes possessed from 673 until 1781. At its apex, the colonies spanned three continents: Ecros, Ostlandet and Sur. It comprised the overseas territories and mostly trading posts controlled and administered by Reykani chartered companies—mainly the Eastern Hemisphere Trade Company and the Western Hemisphere Trade Company. From early 16th century all colonial possessions were company ruled, which both were possessing quasi-governmental powers, including the ability to wage war, imprison and execute convicts, negotiate treaties and establish colonies. It was initially a trade-based system which derived most of its influence from merchant enterprise and from Reykani control of international maritime shipping routes through strategically placed outposts, rather than from expansive territorial ventures, the majority of the Reykani colonial overseas holdings consisted of coastal forts, factories, and port settlements with varying degrees of incorporation of their hinterlands and surrounding regions. Reykani chartered companies often dictated that their possessions be kept as confined as possible in order to avoid unnecessary expense, mostly remained undeveloped, isolated trading centres dependent on an indigenous host-nation. This reflected the primary purpose of the Reykani colonial: commercial exchange as opposed to sovereignty over homogeneous landmasses.

History

Due to it's location in the world, as an island, civilisation on Reykanes, was very seafaring, from the beginning. As an isolated island, certain resources were missing, as a result early trade route were established from the beginning. The earliest form was in the 1st Century BC. At first trading between city states on the island, expanding trade routes to Ecros. The first resource related war was the War of the Aegir, which was mostly pillaging and stealing resources, with very short lived minor colonies. Afterwards Kingdom Reykanes, changed it's direction towards establishing, trade routes in Eastern Ecros, via expeditions. They mostly traded with Romanyan Empire.

After the fall of Romanya, with new nations risen, Reykanes tried to keep their trade routes intact and safe from raids, in the beginning, they managed to find new trade partners, like some Caliphates, but that didn't last for too long. Some nations started to disrupt Reykanes's trade network, being forced to fight to end the disruption and find alternative routes. In a series of raids, called the Raids of South Eastern Ecros, which Reykanes wins and manages to keep the routes. Even established a small city state on the smaller southern island of Stretchia, an island nation on the coast of Pavulturilor in 673 AD, called the Skjálfheimar was semi independent from Reykanes, It was a major trade hub, to protect it, a Fort was build there and was renamed to Fort Skjálfheimar. It was invaded by Stretchia in 1330 AD. It was the first long form of a colony by Reykanes.

By start of the 16th century major coastal cities in Reykanes, had been important hubs of the Trans Ecros-Ostlandet maritime trade network for centuries. Their geographical location provided convenient access to markets around the northern hemisphere. With major established routes, with lots of merchants developed a piracy problem, which harassed, the average trader. As a response the government of Vilankthian-Tyrnian Reykanes created Reykani chartered companies, the first one, the Western Hemisphere Trade Company in 1504 and the Eastern Hemisphere Trade Company in 1507. Both created to protect Reykani trade interests and to expand it. First of the outposts were in modern day Sconia and Tumland. The íslamströnd Outpost (1504-1731) in Northern Sconia and Eyðimerkurströnd Outpost (1504-1714) at the most southern point in Tumland, which served as a resting point towards Sur and Western Ecros. After they expanded to Souther Araucarlia with Skagi Outpost (1506-1667) and then Kryddströnd Outpost in Southern Karimun (1506-1744).

In 1507, the the Eastern Hemisphere Trade Company expanded to Ostlandet with the Búddistaströnd Outpost (1507-1781) in Baltanla and then to Monsilva, building up another major spice trade route. The Outposts in Monsilva and on Akvatika Island, soon became the number one spice trade for Reykanes, with in total of 4 Outposts in the region. They also expanded to New Gandor with the Byggströnd (1508-1781), mainly for resources like sugarcane and barley.

After the 1550s, two outposts were built in Sur, only those two were on the continent. One in Creeperopolis, next to Port François and Rakeo, first one for the major Sugarcane trade, the later for Soybeans and gems alike. At Fort Hraunborg (1557-1670), the sugarcane trade was very succesfull, however a dispute was created between the trade company and the government of Creeperopolis, thus starting the Hraunborg War in 1670. It was the biggest trade war for Reykanes, which Reykanes lost. This was a huge loss for the Western Hemisphere Trade Company. Reykanes had to direct funds to the company to regain losses after the war. Distrust has grown in the company as well. There was also a fight between companies on who gets more funding, which created tensions between the two companies. As the Western company lost more outposts, eventually being left with two, the Kryddströnd Outpost (1506-1744) and the Suður-lítið eyja Outpost (1560-1744) by 1740. Both had huge distances between them, financially it couldn't upkeep the outposts and eventually the trade company had announce its bankruptchy in 1744. The Eastern Hemisphere Trade Company was active till the 1781 Salisfordian takeover of the country and was disbanded and the outposts were abandoned.
