The National Anthem of Monsilva, also known by its first lyric, There is no Monsilva without its people, (Monsilvan: 没有人民就没有山共和国; Pinyin: Méiyǒu rénmín jiù méiyǒu Shān Gònghéguó) was adopted in 1978 as Monsilva's national anthem following the foundation of the Monsilvan Republic after the Monsilvan Revolution.
History
The music for the anthem was written by Jin Wu in 1820, not long before the beginning of the Monsilvan Civil War, and was titled "People of Shan deserve freedom". Jin was a native Shaoyunese person and lived on Shaoyu Island, which operated as a de-facto autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Great Shan, and maintained more civil freedoms than the mainland. The song was created as a sympathy towards the people who suffered under the strict laws of the mainland which would contribute to the outbreak of the civil war four years later.
The original song had no lyrics and the melody and rhythm was much slower than the current anthem. In 1974, the Monsilvan Revolutionary Army decided to adopt the song as the paramilitary's anthem, and proposed national anthem if the army was successful in its mission of overthrowing the military government of Shao Yaoting. The paramilitary initially adopted the song as it had been originally written in 1820, however in 1975, they decided to increase the tempo of the song and slightly change its rhythm in order to add lyrics.
By the end of 1975, the MRA announced that its 'marching song' (the anthem) was adopting new lyrics written by its leader, Xu Zhou-da and a musician named Yuan Liling. The new lyrics were widely praised, and many even stated that the original song had been improved with these new lyrics. In 1978, after the mass protests and the establishment of the Monsilvan Republic by Xu Zhou-da, the song was adopted as the National Anthem of Monsilva.
