The January 2010 Nerfoy attacks, also known as the New Year's bombings, were a series of coordinated terrorist acts in Nerfoy, Montesayette. The attacks were carried out by extremist groups, specifically Sconian militants, in response to Montesayettean support for Pavulturilor during the Judea Crisis.
The first attack occurred at 9:15 p.m. outside the Cité-Nouvelle Baseball Stadium in Cité-Nouvelle during a national baseball match. Three suicide bombers attempted to enter the stadium but failed, so they detonated explosives outside. In a separate incident, another group of attackers conducted mass stabbings and opened fire on crowded areas in Champs-Verts, including apartments, cafes, and restaurants. One of the attackers also detonated an explosive, killing himself. These attacks claimed 26 lives and injured over 100.
In the early hours of the following day, a Chienrú truck loaded with ANFO explosives targeted the Bernard Memorial Building, headquarters of the Montesayettean defense ministry. The attackers' attempt to ram into the building was thwarted by barricades and anti-ram barriers. However, they detonated the explosives, causing injury to approximately 100 people in the vicinity. Two attackers died in the blast, while three others were apprehended. Defense ministry staff were not injured.
In response to the attacks, martial law was declared nationwide at 4:00 a.m., accompanied by a curfew. This marked an unprecedented moment in Montesayettean history, as the country came under direct military governance. Internal Troops deployed to Nerfoy, and militants took the Sconian Embassy hostage, leading to a four-day siege. The National Maréchaussée eventually took over the embassy, rescuing all hostages except for the Sconian Ambassador. He had been killed prior to the assault.
Although the attacks officially ended on January 2, there were subsequent incidents throughout January and February. Martial law was lifted during this period. The Sconian government disavowed any connection or involvement in the attacks, condemning them outright. Montesayette declared a national day of mourning and remembrance for the victims. The attacks resulted in 199 confirmed deaths and over 680 injuries, making it the deadliest terrorist act in Montesayettean history.
