Background
Reykanes joined the OU as a observer on 23 June 2022 during the 2022 Gjorka City summit which gave them 2 non voting members in the Council of Ostlandet. A year later on 18 June 2023, Reykanes was upgraded to as a OU partner state during the first Ostlandet Union summit, which gave 8 non-voting members in the newly created Ostlandet Parliament.
Electoral system
The Ostlandet Parliament for Reykanes consists of 8 members who are elected through a Party-list proportional representation system, specifically designed within the framework of the Patriksson system. This electoral system is distinctive for its rigorous eligibility requirements and its structural safeguards aimed at preserving the unique political and cultural interests of the regions involved.
Party-List Proportional Representation
Under the Patriksson system, only political parties that have surpassed a predetermined electoral threshold are eligible to participate in the election. Specifically, only parties within the Parliament of Reykanes that have secured at least 10% of the popular vote in prior elections are permitted to field candidates. This threshold is set to ensure that only parties with significant public support can contest in the parliamentary elections, thereby maintaining a stable and representative political environment.
A unique feature of this system is the separation of party interests from regional interests, particularly between Reykani and OU. Parties are only allowed to send a OU (Ostlandet Union) representation to the parliament. This representation is distinct from the party itself and operates independently to prevent the mixing of Reykani and Ostlandet interests, thereby ensuring that the unique concerns of each region are adequately represented without undue influence from overarching party agendas. It also outlines that the parties must be in the unaffiliated political group within the OU Parliament as inherently the parties in Reykanes are not grouped between parties in Ostlandet and are non-voting members.
The system originnaly proposed a outline of a strict criteria for voter eligibility. According to the proposed rules established for the election, only individuals who were officially registered as part of the Ostlandet ethnicity or who held Ostlandet citizenship during the 2022 Census would have been eligible to vote in these parliamentary elections. This restriction underscores the emphasis on preserving the cultural and political integrity of the Ostlandet minorities within the broader electoral framework of Reykanes. However this proposal recived many blacklash and lack of support, it was rejected in the end, everyone who is a registered voter is eligible to vote.
The election operates with an implicit threshold of 12.5%, calculated based on the number of seats available (8). This threshold ensures that a party must secure at least 12.5% of the vote to guarantee representation in the Ostlandet Parliament, further contributing to a balanced and proportional distribution of seats among the competing parties.
This electoral structure, as defined by the Patriksson system, reflects a careful balance between proportional representation, regional autonomy, and the maintenance of political stability within the Ostlandet Parliament.

Propaganda
As the election is only participated by the Ostlandet minority in Reykanes, propaganda posters are only put up in Ostlandetian majority neighbourhoods and towns, like TBD and mostly on social media. However the Reykani government does put out general election posters to encourage people to go vote.
