The Social Democratic Party (Quebecshirite: Parti Social-Démocrate [paʁ.ti sɔ.sjal.de.mɔ.kʁat]; PSD) is a major centre-left political party in Montesayette, holding representation in the National Assembly along with seven other political parties. The PSD is the single-largest political force and the oldest extant political party in Montesayette. It has achieved notable electoral success, consistently exceeding 50 percent of the votes and securing over 70 percent of the seats in every election since 1941. This longevity has established the PSD as one of the longest-serving governing parties in multi-party parliamentary democracies in Terraconserva, with an uninterrupted tenure of 82 years from 1941 to the present day.
The PSD occupies a centre-left position within Montesayettean politics. The party leans towards market-oriented socialism, prioritizing welfare capitalism. It emphasizes the importance of promoting market competition and limiting direct interventions, advocating for a balance between state involvement and free-market principles. The PSD supports state ownership in strategic sectors such as petrochemical, aerospace, and defense. This is to stimulate industrialization, foster economic development, and creating jobs.
On the social front, the PSD holds a position that diverges from the prevailing individualism sentiment in most Ecrosian states. While individualism may be more prevalent in the region, the PSD promotes communitarian and family values as a distinct characteristic of its policies and ideology. The party prioritizes Montesayettean society's cohesion and unity, aiming to forge a common national identity among ethnic Montesayetteans, Kavardans, and Vaktrians.
The PSD places importance on women's rights, adopting a more traditional approach that acknowledges the inherent differences between men and women. It advocates equal opportunities and rights for all individuals, without necessarily endorsing more radical policies such as affirmative action. The party emphasizes "human" rights, aiming for equal treatment and opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender. It played a role in the legalization of same-sex marriages in 2006. However, the party expresses reservations about LGBTQIA+ studies inclusion in lower education institutions. It highlights concerns about ensuring children's freedom to choose their own paths and the importance of protecting their autonomy.
The PSD prioritizes strong civilian control over the military to address concerns arising from coup d'état incidents in other countries. It also counteracts the potential for excessive militarism. While the party supports conscription within the Montesayettean Defense Forces, considering it a necessity for national security, it also takes a staunchly antimilitaristic stance. The PSD emphasizes the invaluable lives of future generations and recognizes the devastating impact of war on young dreams and aspirations. Wars are viewed as inherently negative and detrimental to humanity, and the party believes they should only be undertaken out of absolute necessity. In terms of foreign policy, the party leans towards diplomatic discretion, maintaining relations with a wide range of nations. Despite Montesayette's membership in the Alliance of Central Ecrosian States, the PSD emphasizes international neutrality.
