Pietro Govone (born 25 April 1980) is a Salisfordian politician who is serving as the incumbent First Minister of Salisford and chairman of the Catholic Labor Front. Since his acension in 2016, Govone has been the most prominent political leader in the Kingdom of Salisford. He is the de facto ruler of the country, the Monarch having been relegated to a ceremonial role ever since Sandro Neri's rise to power.
The grandson of prominent Nerist Michele Govone, Govone joined his local branch of the FdLC and worked as the local party secretary. After studying industrial economics at Alessandria University, Govone rose quicly through the political ranks of Salisford's coastal provinces, partly because of the weight of his name, and partly because of his own talent. Govone was appointed to the Senate of Salisford in 2005, and later served as the Proconsul of Egitta between 2007 and 2010. Following the end of his term as governor, Govone was chosen to serve as Matteo Fara's Minister of the Catholic Labor Front. After Fara's retirement in 2016, Govone was elected to suceed Fara as Duce of Salisford and Chairman of the FdLC. Govone is widely considered to be part of the FdLC's Matterist faction.
Since assuming power, Govone has implemented far-ranging policies, from measures to ensure party unity, to anti-corruption, to economic reform. Govone has taken a pragmatic approach to foreign policy, preferring to continue lucrative trade with Salisford's JASAREPA and CODECO allies, rather than following the orthodox Nerist path of confrontation with ideological others.
