Chamdo (Byasanese: ཆབ་མད; Şovunkeln: Цамдо) is a city and province in northern Byasa. It is the second-most populous city in the nation, behind only Rigrongseb. In 2020, it had a population of 4.7 million. The entire metropolitan area of Chamdo, consisting of the entire province, has a population of 5.1 million. It is the most important city in the northern half of the nation.
Chamdo was originally founded as a small village under the expansion plan of the Gyatso dynasty. It grew quickly while under the rule of the Empire of Baltanla, and was selected as the capital of the Kingdom of Nagstshalsa after independence. The city suffered huge population loss during the Second Byasanese Civil War, and when the Second Republic of Byasa was organized after the war, it was not selected to be the capital.
