The Masnada (sf. "Il Masnada", roughly "the banditry") is a Salisfordian, mafia-terrorist-type, organized crime syndicate and criminal society. It is a loose association of criminal groups that share a common organisational structure and code of conduct, and present themselves to the public under a common brand. The basic group is known as a "family" or "clan". Each family claims soveriengty over certain territories or rackets. Members of the Masnada are referred to as "Masnadieri" (sg. "Masnadiero"). The core activities of the Masnada are drug trafficking, protection racketeering, counterfeiting, money laundering, and oversight of illegal agreements and transactions. However, some families do participate in the traditional crime of the Masnada, banditry.
Opposed to more pyramidal or heirarchical criminal organizations, there is no central ladership to unite each of the families, and as a consequence they all act independently, and are prone to feuding amongst themselves.
