Central Amking University (Monsilvan: 中央阿姆京大学; pinyin: Zhōngyāng Āmǔjīng Dàxué; CAU) is a public research university in Amking, Monsilva. The university is the most prestigious in Monsilva and one of the most prestigious in the world. It is famous for its intensive work ethic and well-known alumni. Before 1978, the university was known as Amking Imperial University. The university was established in 1845 when it received its royal charter by the Song Emperor. The university has since merged with three other universities located within the Amking central counties including Wanghu College and Fangu District University. In 1978, after the abolition of the monarchy in Monsilva, the university was renamed to Central Amking University.

Central Amking University has eight faculties, namely Humanities, Social Sciences, Economics and Management, Science, Computer Science, Law, Engineering, as well as Medicine and Health Science. It consists of 55 colleges and departments, 60 research entities, and ten affiliated hospitals. In 2017, Central Amking University's staff included several academicians of several Monsilvan and international academies of excellence.

History

Establishment and the Kingdom of Monsilva (1845–1978)

During the reconstruction of the Kingdom of Monsilva after the Monsilvan Civil War, which ended in 1830, universities began becoming increasingly important to increase the population of intellectual people in Monsilva. They were especially important to Monsilva's limited democracy, as suffrage before 1913 only included men who had attended a government approved university. Many universities were founded or refounded in the next thirty years after the end of the civil war, including Central Amking University, then known as Amking Imperial University in 1845. It was established by the approval of the royal charter by the Song Emperor. Since its establishment, the university has served as Monsilva's foremost institute for higher learning, but also as its educational authority. In order to develop Monsilva's education system into one of international standings, it was suggested by the government to introduce academics from Ecrosian countries such as Jackson. The first chancellor of CAU was a Jackian academic who had been residing in Niao Dao as an assistant to the island's provisional government established after the Jackson Empire's annexation in 1828.

The university was also at the forefront of multiple social and political movements in Monsilva, especially after the 1913 political reform movement which increased suffrage from only male academics to all men over the age of 18. The university was also highly involved in the Monsilvan civil rights movement which took place from 1928 to 1933. After 1963, life in the university, as well as many other universities began to become much more difficult, with chancellors being ousted in favor of government sponsored chancellors who implemented strict curriculums that coincided with the military government's censorship policies. The restriction of the university's research output also paralyzed a lot of the university's principal functions. During the 1978 protests which eventually lead to the end of the military government, thousands of students, including from Central Amking University, would skip university and instead head to the streets to riot and protest against the government. The most famous of these student protests, which also included many non-students, was the Jingtianmen Square protests which ended with a brutal massacre of several hundred students, most of which were from CAU.

Monsilvan Republic (1978–present)

After the establishment of the Monsilvan Republic, the universities censorships were lifted and the pro-former government chancellor and faculty were fired or arrested. From this point, the university was allowed to return to its former high standings which it had lost during the oppressive former regime.

In 1979, the univeristy begun its first multilingual courses, offering multiple courses in Quebecshirite and Spanish as well as Monsilvan.

Campus

View of the central campus

The university campus is on the former site of Kingdom of Great Shan imperial gardens and it retains much traditional Monsilvan-style landscaping, including traditional houses, gardens, pagodas, and many notable historical buildings and structures. The landscape in campus gives a presentation of Ecrosian styles combined with traditional Monsilvan aesthetic standards. Foreign architects designed some of the university's buildings constructed during the 1919 to 1922 period. There are several gates that lead into campus — East, West and South gates, with the West Gate being the most well known for the painted murals on its ceiling. Weiming Lake is in the north of the campus and is surrounded by walking paths and small gardens. The university hosts many museums, such as the Museum of University History and the Museum of Art and Archaeology.

Notable items in these museums include funerary objects that were excavated in Amking and date back thousands of years from the graves of royals of the Zhou dynasty period. There are ritual pottery vessels as well as elaborate pieces of jewelry on display. There are also human bones set up in the traditional burial style of that period.

International students

The Langrun Garden, located in the north-eastern area of the university, is the home of the Amking International MBA at Central Amking University

Every year, there are approximately 10,000 international students studying at Central Amking University. The dormitories for international students at the main campus are located at Shaoyuan Garden (勺园) and Zhongguanyuan Global Village (中关新园). Its international students are made up of students from most countries in Terraconserva.

Central Amking University has established over 70 partnerships with foreign universities for study abroad and international placement opportunaties for both students at the foreign university coming to Central Amking University, but also for many of them, providing opportunaties for Monsilvan students to study abroad at those partnership universities.
