The 2023 Olino blackout began on 31 May 2023 and persisted until 14 July 2023. Local power producer Olino Water and Power (commonly abbreviated as OAyE) claimed that the blackout is the result of an unanticipated equipment failure. With nearly five million people spending weeks without consistent power, the blackout represents the worst power grid failure in Rakeo since the last blackout in Olino in 2015.[1]

Response

On 2 June, a special session of the Stratocratic Authority was held, and the Stratocratic Committee on Improved Electrical Supply or CEMSE, was established to investigate the blackout's cause.[2] On 3 June the Public Disturbance Police advised residents to avoid using generators and portable heaters in ill-ventilated spaces to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. By 7 June, Olino Water and Power announced that power had been restored to "public utilities and necessitates", though most residents of the city were still without power.[3]

Power was restored on 14 July 2023 according to both local media and international reporting.[4][5]

Investigation

A government investigation was announced to be taking place with the creation of the Stratocratic Committee on Improved Electrical Supply on 2 June. The committee consists of experts in Rakeo's energy sector, including two consultants who have worked to standardize electrical standards in Rakeo for the heavy industry sector.
