The 2022 Ajaki–Paleocacherian conflict was a maritime conflict between Ajakanistan and Paleocacher in February 2022. It is the first military conflict involving Paleocacher in several years and has an ongoing effect on the Ajaki government's international relations and their persecution of the Cherzian conflict.

Origins

Paleocacher and Ajakanistan have had a tumultous relationship in the past, largely due to ideological differences. In the late 1950s when Ajakanistan waged a war against Paleocacher's close ally Reykanes the Paleocacherian Armed Forces engaged in conflict with the Ajaki Navy and ground forces as the Paleocacherian Navy enforced a marine exclusion zone alongside the Tiroler Defense Forces and an expeditionary force supported the repulsion of the Ajaki Army's amphibious invasion.

Paleocacher's status as a constitutional republic is at odds with Ajakanistan's communist party and although the two nations maintained diplomatic relations following the war there was never a close relationship. The Ajaki Communist regime's largely insular policies following the repulse of their invasion led to them shunning much international law including their failure to ratify Terraconserva Council of Nations Treaties recognizing country's authority over a 200nm EEZ.

In January 2022 the Paleocacherian government determined to enforce stricter fishing regulation on international fishers in Paleocacher's EEZ. An Ajaki fishing trawler was observed harvesting several protected species within the confines of the Fiordland National Park on 29 January 2022 by a seaplane belonging to the Paleocacherian Coastal Patrol. When contact was made with the fishing boat the crew fired on a boarding party, killing one officer. The Ajaki trawler then fled but was outran and boarded by a Coastal Patrol cutter. The crew was arrested and taken to the Paleocacherian capital of Gardena to face charges for their offenses.
